GLENN, Nick Houston, died January 14, 2018. He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Anna (Ann) Glenn; a daughter, Theresa Londquist (Clark); four grandchildren, Stephanie Schader, Julianne Londquist, Heather Cowan and Brian Londquist (Mary); and two great grand-children, Jay and Robert Cowan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, JoAnne (Glenn) Girard. Nick was born May 12, 1923 in West Point, Arkansas, son of Ambrose and Mattie Glenn. Nick spent his first years in West Point, AK. As a teenager he moved with his family to Redding, CA, where he was a 1941 graduate from Shasta High School. After high school he served on a Navy submarine during WWII [USS Bergall (Plankowner)]. After the war, he returned to Burney, CA where he met Ann. Nick and Ann met on Veterans Day, 1945. It was a Veterans Day dance where his sailor's hat went around the dance floor and ended up on Ann's head when the music stopped. The rest is a journey of many happy years as partners for life, living in Burney, Red Bluff, 56 years in Chico and the last 8 years at Eskaton in Roseville. Nick enjoyed a successful 50+year career as a Certified Life Underwriter. He worked for West Coast Life Insurance Company as an Agent, Manager and semi-retired as a independent insurance broker. He was active in his community and the Trinity Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors, bicycling, golfing, jogging in Bidwell Park, snow and waterskiing. He was a Mason, member of the Elks Club and many other service organizations. Nick's life was full of serving and helping others. He was especially kind and patient. He loved, his family, friends, music and wanted all to participate. He taught many friends to water and snow ski. He also hiked with the Boy Scouts. Services will be held at Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway, Chico, CA; Saturday, January 27, 2018. A viewing at 9:00 AM to 11:00AM; followed by a 11:00 AM funeral service. GODFREY, Donald Lee, 75, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at his home. He was born March 26, 1942 in Burlington, to the late T.A. and Stella Hurt Godfrey. Donald graduated from Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington in 1961, he then enlisted in the United States Navy serving for over 22 years, retiring in 1985 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy, Donald was a Electronics Technician on Nuclear Powered Submarines. He also earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina. After retiring from the Navy, Donald went to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary earning a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Divinity. During his time as a Pastor, Donald served the following churches, Warrenton Baptist Church in Warrenton; Hickory Rock Baptist Church in Louisburg; Sandusky Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va.; and retired from Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church in Granite Quarry. Donald enjoyed researching his family's genealogy; he published three books about his family. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Godfrey. Donald is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Penny Godfrey, whom he married Feb. 1, 1965; sons, Donald Lee Godfrey Jr. and wife Rose of Louisburg and Jonathan Richard Godfrey of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandsons, Walker Godfrey and Quinn Godfrey; granddaughter, Ingrid Godfrey; sisters, Charlotte Hatchel of Burlington and Christine Sharpe of Greenville; and 11 nieces and nephews. Visitation: The family will greet friends and relatives on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, 6-8 p.m. at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell. Services: The funeral service will be held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, in the Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, with Rev. Jim Brookshire, officiating. The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the United States Navy and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rev. Godfrey may be made to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care 720 Grove Street Salisbury NC 28144. REMINGTON, Charles Eugene, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2018. He was born February 1, 1936 in Sedro Woolley, WA to Ralph and Oral Remington. The family started a dairy business in the Skagit Valley, moved to Tacoma, WA when World War II began. Then bought a farm in South Prairie, WA. In 1954 Gene entered the Navy and was stationed at Key West, FL with his first wife Louise. He was proud of his service on one of the last diesel powered submarine, USS Thornback. Three years later he and his family returned to the Northwest and began his varied careers. Among them, working at a trout hatchery for the Game Department, beaver trapping, barber, hunter for the US Fish and Wildlife, Pierce County Sheriff and ultimately as a "Fish Cop" with Washington State Fisheries Patrol where he spent 25 years doing what he loved, working in the great outdoors and developing many lifelong friendships. Gene had great stories and knew how to tell them. He loved a good joke and had an endless supply to tell. Gene remarried in 1965 to Joyce Silvernail. They moved to Camano Island, WA where they lived for 51 years. His adventures continued after retirement, travel, summers working in a cannery in Larson Bay, AK, winters in Arizona among them, continuing to develop many more friendships. He joined the North American Wildlife Officers Association and had the opportunity to travel to several conventions in the US and Canada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Magorty (Brian); his sister, Lois Erath (Gary); nieces, nephew and grand nephews, as well as many, many, devoted friends who shared their lives, life stories and loved him. A celebration of life will be held in the future. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or American Heart Association. Published in The Herald (Everett) on Jan. 21, 2018
