At random: Leonardo da Vinci, the Florentine Renaissance inventor and artist, developed plans for an underwater warship but kept them secret. He was afraid that it would make war even more frightful than it already was.

Digging through my archives and discovered I had two images of the USS S-30 that I hadn't added to PigBoats.COM
These two fill out the tableau of the S-30 at her 1938 visit to Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Enjoy!

I wonder if the crew had as much fun as when we anchored off USNA for 4 days. Weapons off loaded so we had 45 section liberty. It's good to be an E6 and not have to stand a watch while there. Locals paid for drinks and dinner.

As it should be. We all started out as E1 in boot. It wasn't all that way. When I first went to sea on the 599 stores loading was all 3rd class and below. I was 3rd class. When I made 2nd it was all 2nd class and below. When I made 1st class it was all 1st class and below.

AAhhh the luck of the Irish Tom. If it wasn't for bad luck, you'd have no luck...

Been too long but I seem to remember "All hands lay topside to load stores." theory was, I think, you eat it, you load it. Was a lot of "supervising" by officers and chiefs.
