Atlantic 04/27/79: The USS Pargo (SSN-650) is briefly grounded while entering New London, Connecticut, harbor in heavy fog.

Atlantic 04/28/56: The USS Nautilus (SSN-571) suffers a fire caused by a welder's torch, while berthed at New London, Connecticut, during repair of damage caused by snaring of a fishing net on 22 April. The blaze ignites cork insulation and burns paint from the hull. The Navy reports that damage from the fire, the third to break out on the Nautilus, is slight.
