ERICKSON, Paul N., passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Paul was born on March 10, 1946. He was a resident of Boon, Michigan at the time of passing. After two years at Northern College he joined the United States Navy serving on a nuclear submarine.

SMITLEY, William Lee, 88, of Zanesville, Ohio, died April 25, 2018, at Willow Haven Care Center. Bill was born December 11, 1929 in Zanesville. A lifelong member of Brighton Presbyterian Church, he was an ordained Elder and Deacon. He served in the United States Navy aboard the submarine USS Sea Fox (SS-402). Bill was active in American Legion Post #29 and VFW Post #1058. He graduated from Lash High School in 1947. Bill retired from Central Ohio Coal Company. He also worked for General Finance Company and the Zanesville Times Recorder. He was preceded in death by his parents Corbin and Treva Smitley, and by his wife Carol whom he married on November 2, 1951. Bill is survived by three children: John (Teresa) Smitley; Marianne (Brian) Lackey; and Myra (Del) Warne; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Linda Sutton, and two brothers, Carl and Neil Smitley, all of Zanesville. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home where the services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, with Reverend Suellen Skinner officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Brighton Presbyterian Church, 771 Lexington Ave., Zanesville. The family wishes to thank the staff at Interim Hospice Care and Willow Haven Care Center for the loving care they extended to Bill in his final days. Published in the Times Recorder Apr. 28, 2018
