At random: A typical modern submarine may require as many as 2,000 working drawings for the more than 7,000,000 items used in its construction. Blueprints from these drawings if placed end to end would make a strip 250 miles long.

PARR Jeb C., 63, died unexpectedly on April 19, 2018 at INOVA Alexandria Hospital, VA due to unknown causes. Jeb was born on June 2, 1954 in Shelbyville, Illinois. He graduated from Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, CA in 1972 before dedicating his entire professional life to the U.S. Navy. He began his career in the U.S. Navy in 1975 where he enrolled and completed the yearlong nuclear engineering training at the fast paced and prestigious Naval Nuclear Power School located in Goose Creek, SC founded by the Father of Nuclear Navy, Admiral Hyman G. Rickover. It was here where the motto "Knowledge, Integrity, Excellence" was forever engrained in him and he would carry this standard with him for the rest of his life. His eight years of active military service eventually brought him to Seattle/Bremerton, WA area in 1983; where he worked as a Nuclear Engineer for the next 30 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility. It was during this time that Jeb not only acquired two college degrees (bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and Master's Degree in Transforming Spirituality) but he also realized his passion for teaching others and was a vital/integral role in developing nuclear training and qualification programs at the shipyard. He possessed an innate ability to recognize and acknowledge the person behind the trainee/worker, that he was often sent by managers to facilitate discussions between parties with opposing views as he had a talent for finding a common ground and a solution. It was this ability coupled with his prior experience that brought him to work in the Industrial Operations Directorate at Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, DC, in 2016 to oversee training and personnel policy at all four of the public Naval Shipyards. Over the course of his impressive career, Jeb acquired an abundance of awards, medals and letters of commendations. This speaks volumes to the type of person Jeb was as he was a fervent advocate for our Nation's shipyards and his sudden passing is a huge loss to those who loved him and the entire submarine and ship maintenance community. Jeb leaves behind a loving husband of 2 ½ years, Jose Isidoro Lemus, and a sister Leslie Flynne from Houston Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Sea Shepherd Organization and/or Seattle Washington University as he was very fond of both. Cards may be sent to Jeb and Jose's home at 5770 Dunster Ct., Apt. 373, Alexandria VA 22311.
