KREISER, Robert Earle, went home Monday, May 14, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., surrounded by his family. He was born March 29, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Betty McCartney and Robert Russell Sr. Bob volunteered in the Civil Air Patrol and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 18, serving as a submarine navigator. He was wounded in service for his country at the Bay of Pigs and was later honorably discharged, ending his military career. After his time in the Navy, Robert met the love of his life, Carmelita Smith, and they married in Virginia in 1965. They made their way to Colorado and were there for one year before they introduced their first child, Mark Earle, to the world. They moved back to Virginia and had their second child, Dale Alexander, in 1967, who unfortunately passed in May 1970. After Dale's death, Bob and Carm welcomed their third and final child, Karen Rose. The whole family made their way to Alaska in 1975, where they still live to this day. Robert was an avid and loved operator of amateur ham radio for most of his life, along with being a part of the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts and many churches. Always staying busy, he also worked for the state, the airport, on the pipeline and much more. In his free time, Bob loved to camp, fish, fidget with his gadgets and spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. Despite his tough demeanor, he was a huge advocate for personal rights and would stand up for anyone, anywhere. If he thought he was right, he would fight until the end to prove his point, and he would do the same for anybody else who needed a little support. He was loud, intrusive and aggressive, but he was also loving, caring, kind and selfless. Some people liked him, and some people didn't, but it never bothered him because he knew who his friends were. For those who knew the real Bob, he will undoubtedly be missed by many. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; sister; grandparents; his son, Dale Alexander Kreiser; and his nonbiological grandson, David Dale Harmening. He is survived by his soulmate, Carmelita Kreiser; his children, Mark Kreiser (Karen Kreiser) and Karen Watson (Dru Watson); his grandkids, Cole Kreiser and Jaci Jividen; and his "other" grandchildren, Charla, Kylie and Page, just to name a few. (88’s and 73’s, "love and kisses," "best regards." We love ya kid.) A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. May 22 at the Intercultural Assembly of God Church in Fairbanks. Refreshments will be provided. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the J. Michael Carroll Cancer Center and/or Hospice Care. Published in Daily News-Miner on May 20, 2018
