At random: There are more airplanes at the bottom of the ocean than there are submarines in the sky; therefore I chose submarines over aviation.

CHRZANOWSKI, Edmund Nicholas, Sr., 93, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Sophie (nee Karbasz) on May 19, 2018. Devoted father of Denise Krane (Jerry), Deborah (Arturo Farinas), Ed Jr. (Diane Weseloh), and Mark (Gwendolyn). Cherished grandfather of Jerry J. Krane (Abby), Susan Gardner (Andrew), Stephen (Rousha Poudyal), Matthew, and Grace Chrzanowski, Susan Lynn Nova (Rob), Edward and Cynthia Matulewicz, and Justin Weseloh. Loving great-grandpa to Hannah and Alex Krane, and Ryleigh Nova. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, his parents, Agnes (Torowski) and Nicholas Chrzanowski, and his sister, Virginia Beran. Ed was proud to be a submariner on the USS Carp (SS-338) during World War II. After returning home, he worked as a meat cutter in his family's butcher shop. His kielbasa and hams were holiday staples. Ed was famous for telling jokes, to the chagrin of his family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with Sophie and his grandkids, taking them on "mystery trips" and keeping his freezer stocked with ice cream treats. His faith was strong. Even when faced with life's major challenges, he never complained. Instead, he prayed. When he said, "God bless you," he meant every word. Ed was delighted to know that his birthday and the feast day of Saint John Paul II were on the same date. Ed spent the last two years of his life at Marymount Place and Villa St. Joseph in Garfield Heights. Our family thanks his "guardian angels"-the compassionate caregivers who brought so much love and joy to his life. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church, 6912 Chestnut Rd, Independence, OH 44131 on Saturday May 26, 2018 at 10:00AM Interment All Saints Cemetery in Northfield. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edmund at Vodrazka Funeral Home, 6505 Brecksville Rd., (Rt. 21, South of Rockside), Friday, May 25, 2018 From 3-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Michael Catholic Church or The Village at Marymount, 5200 Marymount Village Drive, Garfield Heights, OH 44125. www.vodrazkafuneralhome.com Published in The Plain Dealer May 21, 2018
