At random: There are more airplanes at the bottom of the ocean than there are submarines in the sky; therefore I chose submarines over aviation.

Got the truck jacked up a stabilized last night. Got the tire and wheel off this morning.
Good news and bad news.
Good news is that even though these are the original ball joints, (253,000+ miles) they are all riveted on and can be replaced without a machine shop to press anything together or apart.
Bad news the inside of the alloy rim is pretty badly chewed up and there are several other smaller bits of damage. First picture shows all the shavings from the alloy rim that was all over the place.

Inside of Rim.

The only thing missing is, "I'll never buy a @$#%&%#!! POS Chevy EVER again!"

"I'll buy a Microsoft Surface and donate my Linux box to a museum before that'll happen..."

Don, Don, Don..... such anger. You must learn to relax.
Chevy makes a good product. Every Ford I ever owned, (had a few), was a piece of junk! Then I bought a brand new Dodge. Such a piece of crap I told the dealership I wasn't making another payment, Lemon Law!!!! Got rid of it fast. Then owned a few imports. Junk, almost killed my ex when she was rear ended. Would have killed one of her kids if she had been with he that morning like she normally was. Loved my Saturn. Regret selling it.

Even Micro$oft makes a Linux product now. They've seen the light!!! Or started to.

Relax. Have another beer Don....:-)

Rick,
My wife had her Saturn for 13 years when she got rid of it and it still looked new. She loved that car. We are a Toyota family now, which we love the product. I had a ford 350xl pickup that threw a rod at 26,000 miles while I was parking it in town. Was I pissed. So I can identify with your feelings for Ford.

Heck Ric, John stated it was a half hour job. He and Susie had a shop, so he should know. Of course he is the first Radioman I know of who thought he converted to Snipe, all on his own. Can't understand why you just don't tow it over to West Minot Maine. He should give you a Bubblehead discount. All brands have problems, believe me I have owned a bunch of different ones. Now, with a maintenance program I run them 250,000 miles, and never had a problem selling them. Last one I retired was a Ford F-250 4 wheel drive with a diesel. The guy that bought it ran it to 600,000 + when one of his employees lost an argument with a tree. Currently have an 07 Honda Ridgeline 170,000, 07 Toyota Camray 115,000, 15 Subaru Forester turbo 30,000 with the EYE's navigation system (really love that Subaru). Note, two of them are all wheel drive for Winter visits to Vermont and red clay roads here.

You going to pay the 3500 mile towing bill?

Ric,

Rather than getting into comparisons of various marques of vehicles for their reliability or performance aspects, let us look at their security. In my life, I have owned Jaguar's, Rover's, Toyota's, Nissan's, Volvo's and numerous others other vehicles including Fords. As company cars, I later drove four different high-end variants of the Ford Granada and they all had a common fault. Whilst a great car they were extremely vulnerable to theft in so much that they were contemptuously referred to as Ford Takeaways, as in Chinese take-out meals, by the motor trade. This spawned the introduction of independently manufactured sophisticated locking systems for Ford vehicles that had to be paid for by the owner rather than the manufacturer. Not a great benchmark decision methinks.

Certainly, people all over the world have memories of their favorites, however, no one foresaw that bragging about grabbing one by the Plymouth could have had such dire consequences.

Pedro,
While working for Mercedes Benz in it's American Corp headquarters in New Jersey, we had at the time one of our premier models stolen from in front of our offices. It had a cell phone in it also. We were able to find the car when the not so intelligent thief started making calls with the cell phone...That was a gotcha. We got our car back in two days. The thief might have not be so smart when he used the cell phone, but he was smart enough to steal our top of the line auto...

I was anticipating YOUR rant (a la Microsoft) LOL...    Somebody needs to explain sarcasm to you

Anyway, have had - and have - Ford and Chevy (and Dodge in the past).  I have burned out transmissions in all three (score: even).  Bottom line, none of the big three stand out to me - more good than bad overall.
