Never mind his prior service, both military and political, but as a sitting US Senator that is what common protocol calls for. I can't get petty about such things at time of death. Plus, it is my personal flag, I can fly it as I see fit. The President has control of flags on federal property and bases. The Governor's have control of state buildings. The Postmaster General has control of all Postal buildings and flags. We have control of ours and try to adhere to the flag code as much as possible. If some zit bag has a right to burn our flag, I can sure as heck fly mine at half-staff without a proclamation from the President when I deem it appropriate. |
