I was looking at the pay grades when I was in and what i made then, compared to the pay guys are getting now...2017. What a difference 50 years makes.

Now I get a hint of why I was finding it mighty hard to go from E5 to E6 during the Johnson years. Cheap skate Johnson.

When I got out I was making $116 per month, as an e4. I don’t remember what my wife and sons got.

As an E3 and E4, Sub pay was a bonus; but I still needed to make E5 before I could buy a good car.

And, for ll the 8 months I served on the tender in Rota I received sea pay; but, I never went to sea after we docked in Rota the first time.
