At random: USS R-6 was fitted the first prototype US submarine snorkel at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the closing months of the European part of WW II in April / May 1945 and successfully tested it off Fort Lauderdale, Fl. as the war against Japan ended in August 1945. The snorkel was removed from the USS R-6 and she was decommissioned and scrapped in September 1945.

"Jack Ryan" author Tom Clancy's 537-acre estate on the Bay is for sale. It has a guest house, tennis and sport courts, pool and gun range.

I seem to remember he purchased a WW II Sherman tank & had the damn thing parked in his front yard! Sure would like to have that rascal to tool around in today’s rush hour traffic!

HUNTINGTOWN, MD — The Calvert County 537-acre Chesapeake Bay waterfront estate of the late novelist Tom Clancy — famous for "The Hunt For Red October" and its successors that launched the character Jack Ryan — is up for sale. The property has a mile of water frontage and a 17,000-square foot main house with vaulted ceilings; it could be yours for $6.2 million, according to Realtor.com.
Peregrine Cliff, as Clancy named his estate, is being sold by his family following his death in 2013. Features include an underground gun range, sports field, guest houses and more. An attached indoor pool pavilion has a retractable roof, says the website of listing agent Angel Stevens, with Cummings & Co. Realtors.
Inside the home includes a professional office/library with vaulted wooden ceilings, and a built-in petrified wood writing desk. A security office, chef's kitchen, fitness center, numerous decks, a three level elevator, two four-car garages are other features.

Additionally, the estate has a three-bedroom guest house, a 1000 square foot play house adjacent to the tennis courts, sports fields, a private beach and hundreds of acres of wooded seclusion. The property has 11 deeded lots so the estate may be subdivided. It is being sold as is.

When I was a kid I remember going to visit elderly aunts in a small town near Tacoma, Washington. On the way we'd pass a house with a WW II tank sitting in the front yard, (the barrel had been cut off), and big sign saying: "STUMPS PULLED". Then the little town was mostly rural now it is mostly suburbs.

Had a similar think in this NJ that I grew up in.  The tank was used for demolition of houses.
