At random: On August 17, 1958, the USS SKATE circumnavigated the globe in about fifty minutes. The SKATE was at a radius of about two miles from the North Pole at the time, and the distance traveled in the circumnavigation was about twelve miles.

(aka) How to make a major cruise ship look small - put it next to a 40 high story glacier!

Is there a cruise ship in the picture? I do see something off the point of the glacier in left center that kinda looks like a ship, but am not real certain.

The picture is kind of dark, but, you can make out the ship in the lower right corner of the glacier at the water line.

You quit posting pictures because my eyes aren't the best?

I did find it when Ralph pointed it out. With the yellow line around it, it was easy to find.

Thanks, John.

For reference; the cruise ship in the picture is about 950 feet long and as tall as a 15 story building from the waterline up...

And my eyes are MUCH worse than yours Cora

Shucks John, give Cora a break. She isn't use to seeing anything that large. Why, out there on the plains of South Dakota there isn't much of anything taller than a corn crib. <:~)))

Seems as though you've mentioned that you were an OTR driver, and that you have been through Rapid City.

I don't believe you. Rapid City is not "on the plains." It's in the Black Hills . . . you know . . . Mt. Rushmore (how's that for BIG?) . . . Crazy Horse (even bigger) . . .Custer State Park . . . Wind Cave . . . buffalo (just had our annual roundup), etcetera, etcetera. Admit it, you've never been here, have you?

What's a corn crib?

Why Cora, I most certainly have been through South Dakota many times. Trouble is Rapid City was so small then that if you blinked your eyes twice you'd of thought it was just a truck stop. Granted, the last time I was through there was in '73. So, if I left any kids there they'd be right near 34 years old. Might be safe now for me to pay another visit.
I've got some kin folk living up in Oakes, North Dakota. He runs a combine business. Travels all over harvesting wheat and other grains.
Now, as for trying to BS people, don't expect me to believe you don't know what a corn crib is. I guess I should have said the tallest thing in Rapid City are the grain silos down at the rail yard.

Tallest thing in Rapid City is the Alex Johnson Hotel. We don't do skyscrapers, against city ordinance.

Yeah, come on back. I'll show you around. Beautiful weather right now. Subject to change anytime soon.

Come on a my house; my house a come on.

Cora, you might regret making that offer. I'm getting cabin fever here and my days of OTR trucking are nagging at me. I'm not going to be dumb enough to get back into trucking, but, I going to try and get my "Ball & Chain" to do some traveling OTR with me next year.

Hey Blue,

On this Alaska cruise, the ship's MC and a couple of the top entertainers were from Oz.

They put on some good entertainment.

Hey Tom, the whole continent of Oz is entertainment. Wonderful people, beautiful landscapes, good food and the comedy routines around the Perth area you won't find anywhere else. That's Blue, POD and Ian.
Ya'll need to go and check the place out. Blue will even look out for you if you happen to wind up in the "big house".

Looks kind of like the Glacier I saw too!  You and "Gary" must have been on the same cruise - right?
