At random: The USS SKIPJACK was the first submarine designed from the keel up for top underwater performance using nuclear power. An earlier SKIPJACK was the first U.S. submarine to cross the Atlantic ocean under her own power (Newport, Rhode Island to Ponta Delgada, Azores, in 1917).

DANCES WITH WOLVES For several reasons. It was almost entirely made in the Black Hills, and I believe it gave a fair image of American Indian life before they were illegally driven out of this area. Also an excellant depiction of caucasion thoughts and actions of the post-Civil War era. It show-cased the beautiful scenery in the Black Hills and the Plains.

AND - I had a big crush on Kevin Costner until - (cover your eyes, Ralph) I heard that someone asked him what he thought of South Dakota. His reply, "It's a good place to fly over." Bah, Humbug! The infatuation ended. Thud. But, I still like the movie. I thought it was well made, and it won every Oscar that year, except Best Actor. That'll teach you, Kevin!!!

Godfather I, II, and III and they count as 1 movie for me.

My favorite comedy movie of all time is Dr. Strangelove: or How I learned to Stop Worrrying and Love the Bomb.

Cora, I'm with you, Babe! "Dances" was the best flick ever made! And don't believe everything you may read about what Kevin may have said about SD later. I know he personally put a tremendous amount of time and energy into making it as authentic as possible, down to the correct Lakota dialect and dress. He could not have spent that much energy on a movie set without taking some of it home with him.
BTW I just finished reading "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse" by Peter Mathiason. If you haven't read it, I will send you a copy. I would be very interested in getting your opinion of the book. Oh yes, it is about Wounded Knee II, in 1975 , Lenard Pelitier, Russel Means, and the entire Ameriucan Indian Movement of the 1970's. It is an exploitation of how the FBI , BIA and the Federal courts botched the investigation and set up Pelitier as the fall guy. It was so exploitive that it was kept off the bookshelves for 8 years.

Steamboat - I'd love to read "In The Spirit of Crazy Horse." I've just started "Gallant Lady," and need to keep at it. since it's a library book. When I asked at the local library if they had it, they didn't; but they ordered it for me. I just got it yesterday.

I shouldn't be reading anything. I should be writing. With a little long distance help, I've been learning how to put pictures on pages. It's shaping up pretty well, with all the help I've received from all my friends on the board here. THANKS, GUYS!!! I'm sure it's going to be my life's work. Hope I'm able to finish it. Every once in a while, I have a few mumbled words for my brother. He had absolutely no right bugging out on me.

Cora

Alright, call me a hopeless romantic, but, Casablanca! Rick and Elsa, "We'll always have Paris.", "Here's looking at YOU, Kid."

I'm there with Cora and Steamboat. Coster is right to say S. Dakota is a great place to fly over. Now Cora, settle down I'm not finished yet. Both of the Dakotas are great to drive through and visit also. Of course you need to pay attention to the time of year.
Back to Dancing With Wolves, the only bad part of the movie was having Jane Fonda in it. There are plenty of other female actress' they could have used. Why even Meg Ryan would have been great. Ain't that right, Dex? Even Pamela Anderson would be better than Fonda. <;~))

Jane Fonda was not in Dances With Wolves. And it's not DANCING With Wolves - it's Dances. Mary McDonnell was the lead actress.

Have you had your morning coffee yet? Are you trying to start something by asking Dex?

Thank you for the corrections. I need to do some electrical work with my Son and get zapped a few times. I'll be back on track after that.
As for Dex-- no need to run and hide for either of you. We're suppose to be adults and act like the adults we are. If we can't, well, it's TS which means "terrible thang" so stated by a great EMC(SS) Leroy Tillery. Yes, I know that TS doesn't caculate to "terrible thang" but that was our Leroy onboard the Sennet early '60s.
If anyone has a location on Leroy, please, email me.
