DOW, Richard J., 85, of Millville, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 in the VA Hospital in West Roxbury with his loving wife and family by his side. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Dudley) Dow. Mr. Dow was an elementary school and history teacher and coach for over 22 years in the Goshen Central School Syst- em in New York, retiring in 1995. He had previously tauaght in Sagamore Elementary School in Bourne MA. Richard was born in Brookline Massachusetts to the late John T. and Margaret E. (Burke) Dow on January 25, 1933. He was educated in the Boston Public Schools and went on to earn a Bachelors degree from the former Bos- ton State Teachers and a Masters in Education from Wor- cester State. Mr. Dow also served his country during the Korean War as a Submarine Sailor in the US Navy and was a member of the prestigious Holland Club of the Submariners Association. Mr. Dow had been a resi- dent of both Mendon MA and Middletown New York before moving to Bellingham MA. He was a life member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, the Roger L. Wood American Legion Post # 355 in Mendon, the Bellingham VFW, the Disabled American Veterans-Herron Post in Milford and several professional organizations. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing while spending time with his family in New Hampshire He was a friend of Bill W. and an avid lover of popsicles | all flavors. Above all, he loved and cherished his family. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Nancy, he is survived by four sons, John D. Dow of Bedford NH, Richard T. Dow of Sunapee, NH, Michael P. Dow of Lempster, NH and Kevin G. Dow of Webster, MA. two daughters, Christine Cournoyer of Dudley, MA. and Eileen S. Murphy of Millville; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Gregory C. Dow and Brian D. Dow. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday Nov 29,2018, from 4 to 7 PM in the Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St., Rte. 122, Uxbridge. Funeral services will be held Friday Nov. 30, 2018 at 10AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11AM in St. Aug- ustine Parish, 17 Lincoln St- reet, Millville, MA Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Swan Dale Cemetery, Mendon.
