WEST, Carrell DeWayne, 77, of Lubbock, TX passed away December 3, 2018. C.D. was born in Olustee, Oklahoma to Raymond and Cora West. He married Nancy Bianchi on September 1, 1973. He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service for over twenty years, retiring in 1980. He then worked for the US Postal Service for eighteen years. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald and Raymond; and sister, Sheila Stowell. Loved ones include his wife, Nancy; son, Alan West and wife, Edie; son, Mark West and wife, Angela; grandchildren, Mike and wife Kelli, Miranda, Kyler and Karsen. Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at sea by the United States Navy. Published in The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Dec. 6, 2018


TURNER, Walter Herbert, 98, of Nederland, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was born May 31, 1920, in Kirbyville, to Essie Sims Turner and Walter Turner. Walter was a United States Navy veteran. He served twenty-one years in submarine service retiring as a Senior Chief Electrician's Mate. The Chief later worked at Levingston Shipbuilding Co. and in the maintenance department of Nederland Independent School District. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Nederland and past president of the Silvertone Choir. Survivors include his wife of seventy-three years, Verba Lee Turner; son, Barney Turner and his wife, Dawn, of St. George, Utah; daughters, Becky Bray and her husband, Bob, of Keller, Texas; and Ginger Cooper, of Nederland; 8 grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beatrice Turner and Kathryn Woosley; and brothers, J.C. Turner and Bobby Turner. A gathering of Mr. Turner's family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2018, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Church Building Fund, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627.
