BOSE, Edward Bernard, Sr., 89, passed away the morning of December 6, 2018. A perpetual pioneer, Ed's life was marked by his many achievements, on the sea and in the sky, in science and in leisure, at home and abroad, for his friends and for his country. Ed was born on August 14, 1929, to Polish immigrants Adam and Mary (Gabrus) Bose in Old Westbury, Long Island, N.Y. He was proud of his Polish heritage, learning its language and culture. He grew up on Long Island and graduated from Westbury High School in 1947. A US Navy veteran, Ed earned his "dolphins" as a qualified submariner, and served on the USS Diodon (SS-349) operating off the West Coast during the Korean War. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 1955, where he also played football and was a three-year varsity letterman, playing in the 1955 Sugar Bowl game. An outstanding center, Ed was offered a contract to play for the Green Bay Packers. While attending college, Edward met Nancy Sylvester of Derry, Pennsylvania. They married on November 25, 1954, and in 1957 they moved to Akron. In 1959, they moved to Stow, where they raised their eight children. Ed continued his education, receiving a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Akron. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace and Loral Corporation for 33 years. During his distinguished career, he worked on long range antenna systems, CAD machine programs, battery technology, the F-15 flight simulator, pressure suits, and airships. His team researched and developed new technologies for airships in pilot controls, flight propulsion, navigation, and communication. While at Aerospace, he held or shared in a number of patents, and served as Engineering Manager of Mechanical Product Engineering and as Engineering Manager of Airships during the FAA Certification of the SPIRIT of AKRON Airship. He was a past president of The Goodyear Foreman's Club and retired in 1990. Not content with merely designing airships, Ed was also a private pilot, and past president of Aerofliers, Inc. (formerly Wingfoot Flyers Club). Ed was a longtime active member of Holy Family Parish, where he served on the Pastoral Council, was a coach of CYO high school boys' basketball, and a lay minister. He was a member of Cuyahoga Falls Knights of Columbus Council 2362, a past Grand Knight of Stow Council 4642, and 4th Degree member of Msgr. Joseph O'Keefe Assembly. An avid golfer and a charter member of Greater Summit Senior Golf Association (GSSGA), Ed was admired for his pro-level long drives. He loved working in his garden and maintained an "Adopt a Spot" community garden for many years for the City of Stow Parks Department. He loved sports, especially his Pitt Panthers football, where he stayed connected with teammates as a member of the "Pitt Rocks" alumni society. He loved taking on projects, wood working, and problem solving. His annual 4th of July party, which ran for more than 60 years, will be fondly remembered by anyone who had the pleasure of attending. Ed's family meant everything to him. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending many an event that they participated in. Ed and Nancy hosted many a Sunday brunch after Mass, so the entire family could get together and visit. He was Dad, Grandpa, cook, coach, counselor, volunteer, and mentor. He loved telling stories of his life and, at times, you may have found yourself among his captivated audiences. Ed was the eminent patriarch of our family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bernard; and sister Helen (Anthony) Litka. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Sylvester); eight children: Karen (Michael) Rusnak, Pamela Bose, Susan Bose, Edward, Jr. (Lisa) Bose, Rebecca Bose, Michele (Brian) Fowkes, Thomas Bose, Sr., Jennifer (Chris) Schrickel and like a daughter, Tammy Jirous; fifteen grandchildren: Adam Rusnak, Alison (Adam) Pritts, Emily Rusnak, Anna and Jessie Bose, Madeline Bose, Sarah, Lauren, and Ethan Fowkes, Abigail, Mackenzie, Paige, and Nicholas Schrickel, Thomas Jr. and Jeffrey (Vanessa) Bose; three great-grandchildren: Ryan, Cora, and Henry; brother Adam (Stella, deceased) Bose of Hicksville, N.Y., and many relatives, nieces and nephews from the Connecticut, New Jersey/Long Island, N.Y. area, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews from the Derry/Latrobe, Pa. area. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Sunday, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Fr. Kevin Klonowski celebrant. Please meet and form procession at the church. Burial at Silver Springs Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church. DOOLEY, John H., 85, died peacefully on December 1, 2018, at his home in Lafayette, LA, surrounded by his family. John was born on October 12, 1933, in Erath, Louisiana. He was raised by four women he called his Quatres Merés (Four Mothers): his mother, Mona, Grandmother Ada LeBlanc, Taunte CeCe and Taunte Estelle LeBlanc, and later in life, his stepfather, Alpha Langlinais. After graduating from Abbeville High School in 1951, John joined the United States Navy where he served from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War on the USS Southerland and later as a submariner on USS Thornback (SS-418). After receiving an honorary discharge from the Navy in 1959, John moved home to Louisiana and soon thereafter began his professional tenure at Schlumberger, where he worked for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Sales Engineer. John was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and served as an Usher for many years and was also a member of the St. Pius Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Sally Ann Knowles Dooley; two sons, Don H. Puckett and his wife, Moreen; Robert E. John was a devout Catholic, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He taught his children to work hard, love big and laugh often. He cherished his wife, and his love for her grew stronger with each new year. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family - and everyone was his audience to his jokes. He was proud of his Cajun French heritage and culture. One of his favorite expressions when greeting one of his children was cher ti fe - dear little child. He spent much of his time at Cypremort Point (CPLA as he called it) fishing with friends and family and working on his camp, Reel Time. His fish frys were always the best. He was a master carpenter and shared his talent as a volunteer helping to rebuild the homes of Hurricane Rita victims. John never met a stranger and treated everyone with dignity and respect. Building a close-knit family is his greatest legacy. A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church to celebrate the life of John H.
