At random: Coronation ceremonies of Emperor Alexander II of Russia in 1855 were enlivened by a submarine concert. Wilhelm Bauer, a Bavarian inventor, took three musicians under the waters of Kronstadt Harbor in a submarine he had built, where they played appropriate music during the coronation. The music was distinctly heard on the surface.

McKEAN, Scott Heim, of Nashville, TN, passed away January 17, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Scott was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Margaret Ella and Herbert B. McKean on November 27, 1939. He graduated from Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Idaho in 1957, and Oregon State University in 1962 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He served five years in the U.S. Navy in the Nuclear Power program aboard the nuclear submarine, U.S.S. Theodore Rosevelt. After completing his service, he attended the Harvard University School of Business Administration graduating in 1969 with an MBA in Finance. He finished his business career in 2000, retiring from Bridgestone/Firestone Corp. In Nashville, Scott served on the boards of directors for numerous local non-profit organizations including the Nashville Opera and Fifty Forward. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his sons, Robert and Todd, and his brother, Arthur. Interment will be in Troy, Pennsylvania at the McKean Family Cemetery in July. The family suggests that remembrances may be sent to the Nashville Opera, Fifty Forward, or Alive Hospice. Published in Tennessean on Jan. 20, 2019


MILLER, Timothy Jon, 77, of Farmington, NM, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. His beloved wife and daughters were by his side upon his passing. He was born on July 31, 1941 in Altadena, California. He was raised by his mother Ramona Edith Jackson and Robert E. Smith. Tim was proud to be a part of the first graduating class of Farmington High School, 1959. He served in the United States Navy as a submariner and then attended New Mexico State University where he received a degree in business. Tim married Polly Wingate on January 1, 1964 in Farmington and they moved to California in 1970 where they raised two daughters. It is in California that Tim began his career in banking. Tim and Polly moved back to Farmington in 2001 and later retired. In his younger days Tim enjoyed boating, water skiing, and trips in his motorhome. He was eager to lend a helping hand and loved a good party where he could dance with his wife. Tim was an extremely loving and supportive husband, father and Grandfather. His family was his number one priority. Tim is preceded in death by his baby sister Cheryl Miller, his father Robert E. Smith and mother Ramona Jackson. Tim is survived by his loving wife Polly Miller; daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Schmidt and Debbie Fentiman; grandchildren, Nicole, Emily, Timothy and Hannah Schmidt, Sarah and Laurie Fentiman; brothers, Robert (Karen) Smith and Raymond (Nickie) Miller. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Tim's name to the Alzheimer's Association www.alzfdn.org Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E.
