Just before my active duty was ending there was a rumor that the Pickerel would go on Med cruise as soon as we got out of dry dock. That didn't sway me, but our boat did do the Unitas thing including going through the Panama Canal. Traveling to South America is something I do regret not experiencing, but extending four years to my 1 1/2 years was something I rejected. I've seen a lot of Asia, and Europe as a civilian, but I've never put a foot down in South America despite having a passion to see many countries there, and go through the Panama Canal.
