At random: On August 17, 1958, the USS SKATE circumnavigated the globe in about fifty minutes. The SKATE was at a radius of about two miles from the North Pole at the time, and the distance traveled in the circumnavigation was about twelve miles.

Patti just got this from Margaret, Hairy’s sister-in-law:

"I'm sad to say that our dear Hairy is not doing well...his body is weak, he has dementia, and he will be going to a long term care home in the near future as he needs alot of attention now.

"He is now getting flashback of years gone by when he was young, it takes a few nurses to handle him now at times, it's very very sad as he went down hill in his health quickly!!"

Peace my friend.

Sorry to hear that...I loved reading about him and his misadventures. Dementia is a terrible affliction for everyone involved...

When/if he weakens further and gets past the flashbacks stage, he will be easier to manage. May not recognise family at all but at least he will have forgotten all about the frustrations of not being able to remember.
It becomes harder on family but easier on the patient.
