At random: Long considered a versatile and deadly instrument of war, the submarine has broadened her capabilities with the adoption of nuclear power. Today the submarine serves as a ballistic missile platform, early warning station, killer of surface and underwater vessels, scout, coastal raider troop transport, supply ship, mine layer, and seaplane tender.

My wife and I are flying to Chicago the end of May. Right now we're scheduled to fly the Boeing 800, that are grounded. Hope they stay grounded until they fix the problem. So far we haven't been notified of any change in planes. I guess AA is waiting and hoping for a fix also. That may put a major crimp in our vacation plans.
Our flight home is on the same plane from Denver, via United Airlines...

I wouldn't sweat it. The cause of the latest crash of the Boeing 737-800 was caused by a bird or foreign object striking the plane on take off. The 737 has been around for close to 40 years. Have ridden one many times over the years.

I believe there is a big difference between the 737-800 and 737-900 and the 800 Max. I think the 800/900 are 737 upgrades whereas the 800 max really should be a new plane. The 800 max has much bigger engines than the 800. The engines actually could not fit a normal 737. They also deliver more power during climb which some have believed is the cause of the two crashes. It is said that Boeing should have marketed a new plane with the 800 max but the company decided to use the 737 appeal to sell more of the aircraft to compete with Airbus which did make a new plane. But, I'm a boat sailor not a pilot so I could be wrong.

Waiting for the ferry this last Sat in Edmonds, Washington and a train passed the waiting area with 8 737 airplane bodies on rail cars heading from the Everett plant to Renton for final assembly.
I didn't shoot and video but found this online from a few years ago taken in Renton.

The (in-trouble) Max 8 is not the same aircraft as an 800 series 737. "Ordinary" 737 range from 100 through 900 series. The Max 8 is in reality, a new plane. Pretending it is just a minor upgrade was probably done to save on international certification and training costs; has not worked too well. We may fing additional management and performance audits uncover a few more 'short-cuts,' that was certainly done on the metallurgical side of manufacture in the earlier days of the jet revolution. Before dad shifted from aluminium to steel, he was at the forefront and was quite amazed at the differences in thought between bean counters and engineers when it came to testing and proving.
