At random: When the nuclear powered submarine USS SEADRAGON surfaced at the North Pole while charting the Northwest passage in August 1960, the crew organized a baseball game. Because of Polar time differences, when a batter clouted a home run it would land in either the next day or in 'yesterday'.

Russian people are not obsessed with the lucky number 13, and there are no superstitions related to this number in the Russian space industry. However, Russian submariners fear this number like nothing else on earth. Russian submariners never go on a mission on Friday, especially on Friday the 13th. If this is their date, they do their best to postpone the start of the mission. It's also considered a bad sign to leave the harbour on Mondays and a good sign - on Thursdays.

Still good for a laugh is the old myth about sailor’s superstitions concerning sailing on Friday 13th in any month on a given calendar. Here it is again with a slight twist.

Sometime in the 19th century, the Royal Navy attempted to finally dispel the old superstition among sailors that beginning a voyage on a Friday was certain to bring bad luck. To demonstrate the falseness of this belief, they decided to commission a ship named HMS Friday. Her keel was laid on a Friday, she was launched on a Friday, and she set sail on her maiden voyage on Friday the 13th, under the command of a Captain James Friday.

She, her crew and her cargo of woodpeckers (a royal present for the Sultan of Brunei) were never seen or heard from again.

Not to steel your post, but what about the superstition about sailing on a ship with number that can be inverted ie. 666, 888,999.

With all the losses of Russian Subs with a 9 in the hull number, the sailors don't like serving on one of them.
