TREGONING, John (Jack) Henry, ENCS(SS), USN, Ret, departed on eternal patrol on November 22, 2020 at 1430 hours. He was born on September 4, 1938 in Ishpeming, MI to John B. and Aurora M. (Swanson) Tregoning and was raised in Negaunee, MI. He attended school in Negaunee and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17. Jack trained as an engineman and served in the submarine force on the boats Bream, Bluegill, Swordfish, Perch, Menhaden, and Cutlass. He served a tour in Vietnam on the patrol gunboat PG90. He retired from the Navy as a senior chief engineman in 1975. Jack married his wife Barbara on November 17, 1967 in Comstock, MI, and they had two children. In civilian life, he was employed by Consolidated Foods Corp. in Waukegan, IL as a refrigeration/boiler foreman and facilities supervisor. He returned to the UP after his retirement from Consolidated Foods in 1983. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, hunting, keeping in touch with his military buddies, and regaling people with stories from his misspent youth. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, United States Submarine Veterans, Fleet Reserve Branch 53, and the Holland Club of Submarine Veterans. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pat (Tregoning) Brown, and his wife Barbara J. (Moody) Tregoning. He is survived by his brother Phillip (April) Barry, his sister Louise (Larry) Kytasaari, his son John F. (Gretchen) Tregoning of Columbus, IN, his daughter Mary E. (Heather) Tregoning of San Diego, CA, and his three grandchildren John D. Tregoning, Cora L. Tregoning, and Aurora M. Lang-Tregoning. In honor of Jack's wishes, there will be no services, and his remains will be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to VFW post 3165 or Fleet Reserve Association Branch 53. DURHAM, Larry Gilbert, of Andersonville a loving husband, father, and grandfather died on Sunday, November 22, 2020. He served as a submarine vet on the USS Thornback before joining IBM from which he retired after 25 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Annie Durham and sister, Harriett Durham. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Durham; daughters, Cheryl Durham and Chandra Durham Pritchet & husband Ricky; granddaughter, Bethany Pritchet; sister, Nancy Wallace & husband Ronnie; nephews, Robert and Paul; niece, Kellie; 3 grandnieces; 1 grandnephew; friends, Jody Wallace and the Liars Club and fur- baby, Dingus. ATCHISON, Thomas L., CDR, USN, Ret., 83, was born in Shreveport, LA on April 1, 1937 and died peacefully November 22, 2020 at Carlisle Hospital. Tom was the son of Floyd Atchison from Capulin, NM and Marjorie (Bough) Atchison from Cimarron, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Jane (White) Atchison, and brothers, Leslie and Warren Atchison. He attended Chapman College, various Navy schools and HACC, where he completed a Basic Truck Driving Program. He grew up in Raton, NM and, upon graduation from high school, joined the Navy. He was enlisted for ten years, then earned his commission. He rose to the rank of Commander, completing 30 years of service. He was a submariner and Nuclear Weapons officer, finishing his service as a Nuclear Safety Officer. He retired from the Navy at Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg. He is survived by his wife Faye Annette (Wilson) Atchison, daughters Patty (Atchison) Montoya, Roberta (Atchison) Ervin, and Daphne (Kell) Dorsey and sons David Atchison and wife Angela, William Atchison and wife Sheryl, and Darwin (Sam) Dean Kell, Jr., step-siters DeLeah Henry and Karen Holly, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling the US and Canada in a motorhome, woodworking, Senators baseball, and several mission trips to FL, WV, and MX with his church. He was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, a Life Member of The Retired Officers Assn. and a Charter Life Member of the Military Officers Assn. of America. Memorial contributions in Tom's honor may be made to Cal Farley's Ranch, Gift Processing Center, 600 W. 11th, Amarillo, TX 79101-3228. The family would like to thank Thornwald Home and Carlisle Hospital for their care and support. Visitation will be from 11am until a Celebration of Tom's life at noon on Wednesday, December 2 at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Interment services with military honors will be held afterward at 2pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
