DAWLEY, Walter (n), 96, of East Dennis and Yarmouthport, MA, died on Friday April 2, 2021 at Atria Woodbriar Place in Falmouth with his loving children by his side. Born in Melrose, MA on February 18, 1925, he was the son of the late James F. and Mary (Colbert) Dawley. Walter attended Melrose High School after which he enlisted in the US Navy May 13, 1943 and volunteered for the submarine service. He qualified in submarines aboard the Gato class submarine USS Bluefish (SS-222) in 1945 and was a Fireman 1st class (Motor Machinist Mate) when released from active duty on December 23, 1945. The USS Bluefish completed nine successful war patrols in the Pacific Theater and sank 12 Japanese ships. Walter was aboard for the last two of those patrols, 8 and 9. Walter was the owner of Chamberlain Tile and Hardware located in West Dennis, MA and was a builder for 25 years. He was a long time member of Cummaquid Golf Course where he made many lifelong friends. Walter was an avid Boston sports fan and was fortunate to see the Red Sox, Patriots and the Celtics win many championship games. Loving brother of John Dawley of Concord, MA and Sister Ruth Dawley of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, Portland, OR. Predeceased by his brothers' James F. Dawley Jr., Joseph P. Dawley and Robert Dawley and sisters' Mary T. Dawley and Sister Jane Dawley. Father of Jack (Sarah) Dawley of Concord, MA, Nancye (Michael) Yoest of Foxboro, MA, Mary Dawley of Newton, MA and Joseph (Michelle) Dawley of Pittsburgh, PA; and grandfather of eight. The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for their unwavering care and attention they gave Walter. They would also like to thank Atria Woodbriar Place and the many employees and residents who befriended him and watched over him. Services will be private. PETERSON, Carl Edward, 79, died after a brave battle with cancer on April 5, 2021, surrounded by his beloved wife Dorothy and loved ones, at his Pembroke Farm. Born in Malden on July 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Paul and Doris Peterson. He grew up in Randolph and was a resident of Pembroke since 1969. Carl proudly served his country from 1958 to 1962 in the US Navy, aboard the newly built USS Patrick Henry (SSBN-599), a nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine. His crew held the record for the longest time submerged under the polar ice caps for 63 days. Upon leaving the Navy, Carl founded South Shore Ornamental Iron, a business that he enjoyed and prospered from while serving the New England area since 1965. Carl attended Norfolk Agricultural School and became an avid breeder of Charolaise cattle. Carl instilled a strong work ethic to all around him. Carl was a man who always spoke his mind. He shared his love of farming and hosted Easter Egg Hunts for his grandchildren and many friends. Carl also passed on the love of vintage cars to all his children, which included annual trips to car shows. Carl will be sorely missed by many friends and business associates including all the friends at "Marylous News" where he spent every morning getting energized. Most of Carls closest friends shared his love for Vintage Hot Rods, farming, and a good cup of coffee. Carl is survived by his wife Dorothy of Pembroke. He was predeceased by his son Carl Peterson and is survived by his son's wife, Susan. Carl is survived by his children, son Michael Peterson and his wife Maureen, son Stephen Peterson, son Charles Peterson and his wife Kimberly, daughter Annette DiIorio and her husband Vincent, daughter Rebecca Skinner and her husband John, son Michael Faghan, daughter Jennifer Janczurewicz and her husband John. Carl leaves behind his 19 loving grandchildren, Carl, Cara, Alex, Aaron, Haley, Michael, Caroline, Mia, Matthew, Julia, Marissa, Dominic, John, Lillian, Hannah, Kyla, Braeden, Isabella, and Harrison. Carl is survived by his brother Kenneth and his wife Margie. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at Sagamore Cemetery, Sandwich Road, Sagamore. YOUNG, Ronald Henry, 79, of Gales Ferry died peacefully at home April 5, 2021, after courageously fighting cancer for many years. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late George and Irma (Schlacta) Young Dec. 14, 1941. Ron met the love of his life, Susan Stevens of Noank, in the fall of 1962. They were married in 1964 and shared 57 beautiful years together. After graduating high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy serving aboard numerous submarines and retired as a Master Chief in 1981. Shortly following his Naval career, Ron advanced on to work for General Dynamics as a Senior Supervising Engineer. Ron worked at Electric Boat for over 21 years before retiring in 2002. Ron was an avid golfer and spent a lot of his free time working on his gardens and landscaping at his home. Taking pride in his hard work, always gave him such gratification. Spending holidays and special occasions with his family were always what brought Ron the most joy. In the years during his final retirement, he and Susan spent half the year at their home in Gales Ferry and became avid "Snowbirds" enjoying their winters in Naples, Fla. Ron and Sue went on their first cruise in 2001, finding their new passion in traveling to unforgettable destinations such as Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean Islands, just to name a few. In addition to his wife, Ron leaves his two children, Carol Ort and her husband Robert, of Mystic, and Mark Young and his partner, George Lavalee of Groton; brother Richard L. Young and his wife Deborah of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one grandson, David Ort and his wife Amanda of Sterling. Ron's family would like to thank Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology in Norwich for their many years of care. They will forever be grateful for the compassion Dr. Dhami and his assistant Laurie showed Ron. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a brief gathering from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the Mystic Funeral Home on Rt. 1 in Mystic. A graveside service will follow at noon at the Elm Grove Cemetery on Route 27 in Mystic with Military Honors.
