DUTTON, James William, 72, of Nebraska City died April 5, 2021 at The Ambassador in Nebraska City. Jim was born August 26, 1948 in Detroit, MI, the son of James Monroe and Ruth Ludine (Emery) Dutton. He married Julie Fisher December 14, 1968 in Troy, MI. Jim formerly lived in Michigan before moving to Nebraska City in 1986. He served on a submarine crew in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim worked at various nuclear power plants including Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville. He later worked as a consultant before his retirement. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Nebraska City Apple Corps Barbershop Chorus and had served several years on the Nebraska City Public Schools Board. He is survived by his wife, Julie Dutton of Nebraska City; sons, James “Jim” (Michelle Ann) Dutton, Andrew (Angela) Dutton, all of Lincoln, Daniel (Jami Jo) Dutton of Papillion; ten grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Paul) Johnson of Loudon, TN, and Nancy (Art) White of Coarsegold, CA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no viewing or visitations and private family services will be held in Michigan at a later date. Memorials may be given to Samaritan’s Purse or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.marshallfuneral.com. WEISS, Richard, 84, of Groton passed peacefully March 29, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 21, 1936, in Avon, Pa. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie Rose Pandolfe; former wife Sally Epler; his parents, Henry and Alice Blatt Weiss; and four brothers, Henry, William, Charles and Raymond. Richard graduated from Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania and joined the Navy in 1954. He served 21 years as a Mineman and then Missile Tech., retiring February 1978. He was the leading Petty Officer of the missile division on the FBM USS Henry L. Stimpson and USS Stonewall Jackson and then a special instructor at the Submarine School in the FBM Weapons Department. It was his greatest honor to serve his country. Richard also worked at Electric Boat as an STO electrician and the Foxwoods Casino in the payroll department. He loved playing golf at both the Submarine Base and Shennecossett Golf Course. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball, bowling and shuffleboard at then Sportsman. He enjoyed his flower gardens, walking at Eastern Point Beach, playing cribbage and watching UConn Husky girls' basketball. He was a member of the Groton Elks (BPOE) Lodge and Submarine Veterans. Richard is survived by his son Richard and wife Debra; daughter Sara Buckland and husband Mark; stepdaughters, Pamela Smith and husband Joseph, Kim Thornton and husband Arthur, Cheri Davis Bohunsky and husband Ronald; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three nieces, Alice, Kirsten and Karen Weiss. His great sense of humor and one-of-a-kind sayings will be remembered with laughter and love for years to come. He was interred with a private family graveside service with full military honors at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton. CONNOLLY, James J., 88, died peacefully Saturday, April 10, 2021. He was born September 6, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Frank Connolly and Mary Catherine "Virginia" Hendershott. He attended the University of Miami on the G.I. Bill and graduated top of his class in Accounting. He was in the Merchant Marines, the Navy as a Submariner, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a CPA for Price Waterhouse for 10 years before launching his lifetime career in International Shipping. He was an executive with US Lines, Prudential Grace Lines and was President of Seatrain's Mediterranean division. He ultimately moved from running container ships around the globe to becoming the Port Director of Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jim was predeceased by his parents, his brother Frank Connolly, his sister Maureen Connolly, and his beloved wife of over 50 years Martha Connolly. He is survived by his sister Patricia Connolly, his daughters Christine Phillips (John), Kathleen Connolly, and son James Connolly, Jr. (Michele); grandchildren Lindsay, Julia, Carson, Cole, and Paige; and niece Patrice Vellecca. Jim valued education and believed that was his way out of poverty. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Educational Institution of your choice, in his honor.
