BURKHEAD, William Sutzer, 82, of Moncks Corner, SC, husband of Nancy Kurowsky Burkhead, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 10, 2022. His Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the time of service. Bill was born March 16, 1940 in Louisville, KY, son of the late Carl Burkhead and Anita Dowell Burkhead. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy for 17+ years. He was on many different boats during his time of service and was especially proud to have been on the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, which completed a submerged transit "Under the Ice" to the North Pole. After his retirement from the Navy, Bill worked as a Nuclear Test Inspector at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. After his retirement from Civil Service, Bill taught Automotive HVAC at Trident Technical College in North Charleston. He was an avid SC Gamecock football fan and a Duke basketball fan. He looked forward to attending the NCAA Final Four every year, as well as spending an annual week with family at Garden City. Bill was also a standing member as a Kentucky Colonel and a Free Mason. He adored his family, and especially liked to brag on his niece and nephew to anyone who would listen. Bill was the sort of man who never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and his fur baby, Marigold. He is survived by his wife; his favorite daughter, Jody E. Charpia (John Flanigan) and daughter, Kelley Sinclair; one son, William Scott Burkhead (DeAnna); five grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Burkhead, Tink Burkhead and Donnie Burkhead; brother-in-law, Charles Kurowsky (Stephanie); nephew, Scott Kurowsky (Colleen); niece, Jennifer Kurowsky; great-nephew, Ryan Kurowsky and great-niece, Lucy Kurowsky. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Schmidt. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bill's name to: Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
