At random: The first submarine which actually sank another enemy vessel under combat conditions was the CSS HUNLEY built during the Civil War. The Union frigate HOUSATONIC on blockade station off Charleston, S. C. was the victim. The incident occurred on February 17, 1864.

Not sure if everyone is familiar with this. It is an organization locating and seeing that forgotten Veterans around the country who have passed away but never been buried or given the Last Rights are found and honored.
I attended a service today for such an event. Here is a video of of the urns discovered and displayed at the funeral home.

A moving and emotional service dedicated to the long-forgotten veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat for their nation. Well done to those who have kept this project alive so that these service personnel will finally receive the military honors and burial they so truly deserve.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning; we will remember them.
