CURBY, Robert Edward, Jr., died peacefully at home in Dexter, Michigan on November 20, 2022. Bob was born the first son of Robert and Regina Curby at Providence Hospital in Detroit, MI on March 24, 1946. His early life was spent on Warwick in Detroit attending Dixon Elementary School. Later the family bought a farm near Cedar Lake outside Howell. Finally, Bob's family moved to Ann Arbor on 7th St., growing to a family of eight. He attended U High (University of Michigan High School) where he played football, graduating in 1964. For two years he attended Adrian College, where he met his love and future wife, Carrie. They were married in 1967 and started attending Eastern Michigan University where he majored in Botany and ultimately graduated in 1968. Their oldest two children were born while Bob served in the Navy on a ballistic missile submarine working primarily as a cook. After the Navy, he began a career in electronics manufacturing. Bob and Carrie had their third child after moving back to the Ann Arbor area. While working, Bob continued his education earning an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. In 1987, Bob had some of the first symptoms of what we now know to be Multiple Sclerosis. Bob faced his circumstances with courage and never complained. Ultimately the debilitating disease removed his ability to work, but not for his zest for life. Up until the end, it was common to hear him say, "Life is good." However, what made life good for Bob was hearing what other people were up to. He loved to hear stories about his sons, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, friends, neighbors, and even telemarketers. He also loved boating, which he did for many years, even taking a trip from Detroit to Boston and back to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary with Carrie. He also enjoyed reading and traveling, as he was able, in addition to family get-togethers, history, trains, and tractors. Bob is survived by his wife, Carrie; three sons, Rob, Matt, and Tim (Mary); eight grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Catherine, David (Lynne), Mark (Jill), Russell (Carol), and Jerry (Joyce). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society online HERE. or by mail to PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. – 1891, or to St. James Episcopal Church by mail to 3279 Broad Street, Dexter, MI, 48130. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2022.
