Plankowner Posts: 5024 Location: Gulfport, MS | Subject: Saturday Obits BROMBEREK, Raymond K., 80, of Groton, passed away at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London on Thursday, March 16, 2023. He was born the son of Edward and Ruby Moseley Bromberek in Santa Monica, CA.on July 14, 1942. He married Loraine Santacroce Oct. 9, 1965. Loraine passed away Aug. 3, 2003. He married Sally Tozier Dec. 16, 2013, and she survives. Ray served in the US Navy Submarine Service for 21 years retiring as a Master Chief. He was the Chief of the Boat aboard the USS Daniel Webster (SSBN-626). After the Navy he worked for Phillips Medical Services as a Technical Instructor. He received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University. Ray also had been a substitute teacher in the Groton School System for many years. He was life member and past Exalted Ruler and Elk of the Year of the Groton Lodge of Elks, a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Besides his wife Sally, he is survived by a daughter, Paula Edwards of Groton; a stepdaughter, Pamela Hartman of Groton; his brother John Bromberek and a sister Bonnie Johnson both of California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Church. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Mitchell Street, Groton. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street. A celebration of his life will be held immediately following the interment at the Groton Lodge of Elks, 700 Shennecossett Road. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be directed to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N Lakeview Ave, Chicago, IL 60614. He was born in Los Angeles, California on August 13, 1946. At the age of three he moved to Sparks, Nevada with his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Ben Wilson. Within just a few years he was joined by a younger sister and brother. He graduated from Sparks High School in 1964. He grew up surrounded by numerous aunts and uncles and cousins enjoying many family BBQs and reunions. He had a strong work ethic and began fixing things, working on cars, doing yardwork and started taking on jobs as a young teen. He continued with that love of manual work and accomplishment all his life! Larry enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and was selected to attend submarine school in New London, Connecticut where he learned to be an accomplished welder. He served on the submarine USS Sabalo (SS-302) during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. After his discharge from the Navy, Larry put his experience to use in business fabricating wheels for race cars. He also enjoyed rebuilding VW bugs and turning them into Baja bugs which he raced in the winter Baja races Larry married for the first time later in life. Last year Larry was diagnosed with cancer. He chose to spend his remaining time in home hospice care. Our family wants to thank the nurses, social worker and CNAs at Infinity Hospice Care for giving him the care and support he needed to navigate his final journey. Larry is lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a good guy, a hard worker and ultimately got to do it “his way! He is survived by his wife Nadja Hall, his Mother Margaret Wilson, his brother Fred Wilson and wife Jill of Fernley, NV, his sister Marcia Thomsen of Reno and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Larry was preceded in death by his stepfather Ben Wilson in 2007. Larry will be buried at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veteran’s Way, Fernley, Nevada on Thursday, March 30th at 11am. Born to Helen and Milton Ryan in Baltimore, MD Jim was a graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and achieved his Bachelor of Science Degree from Johns Hopkins University. Jim served in the US Navy aboard the submarine USS Sirago (SS-485). He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marlene, his daughter Jackie, sons Jim Jr. and Rob, his daughter-in-law Beth, and his grandchildren Alan, Shannon, Claire, Phillip, Matthew and Stephen. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. The Celebration of Life for James Ryan will be at The Atreeum at Soaring Timbers, 610 N. Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, starting at 11:30 am on March 23, 2023.
