The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

SWIECH .. .. .. Kenneth G. Swiech, 80, lifelong Cumberland resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was the son of the late Stephen and Dora (Lussier) Swiech.
Ken was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served honorably in the U.S. Navy. Ken attributed being follicly challenged to having spent months at a time in nuclear submarines, specifically the USS Ethan Allen, a ballistic missile submarine. When asked recently where the submarine traveled in the war, he immediately replied that it was classified information. Case closed.
Ken served in the fire service for 40 years beginning as a volunteer firefighter in 1960. He was appointed a career firefighter in the Cumberland Hill Fire Department in 1967 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He rose steadily through the ranks and was appointed chief in 1981, retiring December 31, 2000. Ken’s bravery - and literally, courage under fire – was demonstrated in 1980 when he ran into a burning home and pulled an unconscious woman to safety before the fire trucks had even arrived. For saving the woman’s life, he was awarded a Special Commendation for Heroism Beyond the Call of Duty by the Board of Fire Wardens of the Cumberland Hill Fire Department. Additionally, the American Legion awarded him the Medal of Heroism for Life Saving and a certificate for Outstanding Service to the Community.

Ken is survived by his brother Richard Swiech and sister-in-law Mary Helen Marina of Glastonbury, Conn. He was preceded in death by his sister June. Ken is survived by his longtime friend, mentee, and colleague, Fire Chief Richard Susi (ret.) and his wife Holly as well as his dear friends Steve Tetreault and Kelley Merchant. His cousin, and as a child, his protector, Donald Corriveau and his wife Pat were loving, lifelong friends as was his fishing buddy Lloyd Oliver and his wife Christine. Ken is also survived by nephews Kenneth and Michael Beauregard as well Alan Susi, Stephanie Morrison, his godson Stephen Susi, and Breckin Tetreault.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday May 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Military Honors will be rendered immediately following the Mass. Burial will be private.

JUERGENS .. .. .. Captain John G. Juergens USN (Ret) passed away on February 19, 2025 in Reston Virginia at the age of 92.
A native of Williston Park, NY, John was born on July 19, 1932, the oldest of three brothers. He went directly from high school to the Naval Academy and graduated with the class of 1954. He served in destroyers before attending Submarine School in New London, CT. He served on Greenfish (SS351), was a member of the commissioning crews of Ethan Allen (SSBN 608) and Benjamin Franklin (SSBN 640). He commanded Barb (SSN 596), including a dramatic rescue at sea of four downed airmen during a typhoon.
A graduate of the Navy nuclear power and Polaris weapons programs, he served as the Force Nuclear Power Officer for Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. His final duty prior to retirement from the Navy was Director of Ship Silencing Research and Development at Naval Sea Systems Command. His service in the Navy was the highlight of his life; providing a vital mission, lifelong friends, and lasting satisfaction.
After retirement from the Navy in 1980 he worked as a naval engineer in the Crystal City area until 2014 when he retired a second time.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Janice. He is survived by two daughters, Leslie Ann Brinker (Paul Brinker) of Aurora IL; Patricia Juergens Tetro (Jack Wilbern) of Vienna, VA; and two grandsons, Robert Brinker and Christopher Tetro.
John will be remembered for his sharp intelligence, high expectations of himself and others, and fierce loyalty to his country and those with whom he served. He mentored many young officers and engineers, encouraging them to think critically and act morally.
He also loved his evening cocktail, a decades-long tradition with his beloved wife. We will smile remembering him at age 90, following hip replacement surgery, smuggling his bottle of Scotch into the rehab facility, and handing it over with a smile when caught.
Memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

AHNEMILLER .. .. .. Bruce Wisner Ahnemiller. WA - The Lord called Bruce home on February 23, 2025, at the age of 90. Bruce was born in Portland, Oregon to Henry and Petie Ahnemiller. He graduated from Bothell High School in 1953. He met his sweetheart, Marilyn Long, while in high school and married her in 1956 at the Lake City Presbyterian Church, where they remained members of the church until their passing. Together, they raised two daughters while living in Lake Forest Park.
In 1953, at the young age of 18, Bruce began working for the Boeing Company in the Military Division. He went on to have a multifaceted, long and successful career. While at Boeing he served many roles including Technical Illustrator, Supervisor for Military Flight Publications, Illustration Supervisor and Chief of Production Support Unit. From 1955 to 1963 Bruce served as a Torpedoman, Second Class on a submarine with the United States Navy while still working for Boeing. In 1994, after 41 years, Bruce retired from the Boeing Company as the Manager of Training Media Support.
Bruce loved camping, hiking, skiing, basketball, golf, bowling, boating, traveling, and poker - especially poker with the boys. When his daughters were young, he enjoyed serving as a chaperon with their Girl Scout troop and as a volunteer at their school. He never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.
Bruce was a master craftsman and wood worker. Using this talent, Bruce and Marilyn built a family cabin at Lake Cushman. Together they created a beautiful place for family and friends to enjoy. They loved nothing more than spending time there with their three grandchildren. Bruce was quite social and loved meeting and being around people. He was always there to help his neighbors and friends.

Bruce is survived by his daughters Diane (Dan) Elliott, Judy (Tom) Schwanz; grandchildren Alex Schwanz, Danielle Elliott and Kelsey Elliott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and his older brother, John Ahnemiller.
