I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. 

SOLICH .. .. .. Jerry Michael Solich, 64, of Yulee, Florida passed away on October 23, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on April 4, 1961 in Verdun, France to the late Joseph and Sharon (Snyder) Solich as the 6th of what would become 9 children. He grew up in Johnstown, PA and attended St Benedict's Catholic School through middle school. Jerry was a 1979 graduate of Richland High School where he was a stand out running back for the school's football team. Jerry continued his football career as a walk-on running back at Pitt during the team's 1980 Fiesta Bowl Championship season. In January of 1981 Jerry joined the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate in the Nuclear Submarine Program. Jerry proudly served his country for the next 22 years as a submariner, instructor and LDO regulator. He retired as a Lieutenant in April 2003 and continued working with the Navy as a contractor for the next 7 years. Jerry then began working for Johnson & Johnson as a manufacturing supervisor until his death.
Jerry met the love of his life, Debora (Dutcher) while on military assignment in Ballston Spa, NY. He and Debi married on February 16, 1985 and began their life together. As a military family they moved several times over the next 18 years, welcoming two children Jerry Matthew and Katelyn along the way. He enjoyed coaching football, cruising, fishing and hunting with his father, brothers, nephews, son and grandson. He was well known for his love of dogs and had recently taken up competitive dock diving with his yellow lab, Bailey. Jerry was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, never missing an opportunity to spend time with those he loved.
Jerry is survived by his adoring wife Debi Solich of Yulee, Fl, son Jerry Matthew (Elysia) Solich of Round Hill, VA and Katelyn (Chris) Holton of Yulee, FL. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Molly, Madelyn and Ethan Solich and Lincoln Holton as well as siblings Donald Joseph, Mary Jane, James, Janet, Julie, Jill, Justin and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jerry is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sharon Solich as well as his brother John Solich.

SOHL .. .. .. Gerald "Jerry" W. Sohl, Sr. Hammond, IN/California Gerald "Jerry" W. Sohl, Sr. born in Hammond, Indiana, December 6, 1932. Jerry passed away on February 23, 2006 after a long bout with emphysema. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 on the submarine, USS Tunny and the ship, USS Klondike. Jerry founded Sohl Plumbing, Inc. in 1964. He was a past president and longtime member of the PHCC of Southern California, a plumbing instructor for the North Orange County ROP, and most recently a Manufacturer's Representative for Delco Sales. Jerry was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of Pacific Rim Lodge No. 567 and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in El Bekal Temple of Anaheim and past president of their Motor Patrol. Jerry was a longtime resident of La Palma, serving on the Development Committee, District Coordinator of Neighborhood Watch, and a volunteer at the La Palma Intercommunity Hospital. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church. His loving family survives him: wife, Jill; brother, Jack; sons: Jerry, Christopher, Brian, Matthew, David, Eric; eight grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

SANBORN .. .. .. Wayne Raymond Sanborn passed away Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 81. Wayne was born March 6th, 1944, in Portland, Maine to Ralph Sanborn and Grace Margaret (Richardson) Howard. He graduated from Belfast High School in Maine. Wayne enlisted in the Navy at a young age and spent his time on submarines.
He had several stories to tell about the food, sharing bunk space with a torpedo, swimming in the ocean with fish that would appear out of nowhere and disappear the same way when he was sent out in his wetsuit in the ocean to check on things on the submarine. He worked at New Yankee Power company in upstate New York for a while, was a partner in a jewelry store, in Hastings, Minnesota, was a trouble shooter for Stone & Webster where he helped build nuclear power plants, owned his own construction company in San Jose, California and became maintenance director for his church. Wayne assisted his late wife, Joyce, with her business Bras Etc. After moving to Calvin, due to Joyce’s health, he did some construction/ maintenance/repair work in the area when Joyce’s health permitted. He basically retired to take care of Joyce and never regretted doing so.Wayne loved music and playing guitar. He would play and sing with such enthusiasm really getting into a song. People enjoyed watching him. He loved to make people laugh and had a unique perspective on life. He never met a stranger and was always talking to someone everywhere he went, meeting new friends and greeting old ones. Wayne married Sharon Lewis in 2023 in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was a loving husband and faithful church member at Atwood Nazarene Church in Atwood, Oklahoma. He really enjoyed his church family, and they enjoyed him as well.Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce Lawrence Sanborn, brother Donald Sanborn, sister Linda Merithew and Dawn Howard. He is survived by his spouse Sharon Sanborn of the home, two daughters; Lori Thole, Nichole Sanborn, stepson Terry McFarlane, grandchildren; Monica, Thomas, Carey, Christian, Amber McFarlane, brother Allen Sanborn. Wayne is survived by numerous other relatives and multitude of friends.

PHILLIPS .. .. .. John was born the year of the Black Penny (1943) and grew up with the post World War II black and white submarine movies on TV (Run Silent, Run Deep, the Silent Service series) which created his desire to enter the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, which he did in 1961. By 1969, he had completed eight Cold War deterrent patrols on a Polaris missile carrying submarine SSBN 617 Alexander Hamilton and then finished his career with 20 years in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Senior Chief. Between 1969 and 1998, John worked for Xerox corporation in Spokane as a Senior Technician, installing and maintaining large printers and high-volume laser printers. For fun, John spent 22 years on the 49° North Volunteer Ski Patrol. In the conservation and wildlife arena, John was a member of the INWC for over 25 years, serving seven years on the Board and chairing the Upland Bird Committee for eight years. John was active with the local Pheasants Forever chapter in habitat development and was a charter member and one of the founding officers of the Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management Association (CPWMA) formed in 2011. He was also a Washington State Master Hunter and a life member of the NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Safari Club International. John was a hunter; he hunted in several US Western states, in the Northwest Territories and British Columbia, Argentina and Africa, and finished in Panama and Costa Rica. He gave into his Scots heritage in the 1980s and learned to play the bagpipes – winning several competitions. Married to Donna (Potter), they marked their 50th anniversary (in 2011) by rafting the Colorado River through Grand Canyon and going to South America. They have three grown children, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. John was known as a curmudgeon, but all the family knew he loved them.

NELSON .. .. .. Carl "Bucky" F. Nelson III, 80, of Londonderry, NH, passed away after a lengthy illness.
Bucky was born on September 26, 1945, to Rita (Buckley) and Carl F. Nelson, Jr. He was raised in Beverly, Massachusetts until his family moved to Contoocook, New Hampshire. Bucky enlisted and served in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Becuna SS-319 and USS Irex SS-482 submarines. Following his service, he briefly lived in California before making the trip cross country back to New Hampshire on his motorcycle. Bucky then went on to the University of New Hampshire, earning his Bachelor of Forestry and taking graduate courses in Entomology.
He met the love of his life, Roberta "Bobbie" Land, while studying at the University of New Hampshire, and the two were married for 49 years. The couple raised their family in Londonderry and Bucky spent his career as an Entomologist with Bain Pest Control.
Bucky was truly an exceptional human - kindhearted, genuine, focused on the right things and extremely charitable - he was the type of person who would give his shirt off his back and probably did more than once.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing rugby, riding his Harley Davidson, casino trips, attending Judo classes, and golfing with coworkers.
Bucky is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Nelson; his son, Eric Nelson; his daughter, Jessica Donahue and her husband Kevin; his grandchildren, Liev Nelson, Callie Donahue, and Keira Donahue; his sisters, Sharon Regal, Jeanne Kruse, and Christine Nelson; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom he loved as if they were his own children; as well as many friends that were like family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Rita Nelson; and his father and step-mother, Carl and Claire Nelson.

HARDAKER .. .. .. Watson "Bud" Andrew Hardaker passed peacefully on October 26, 2025 at the age of 102.
Born November 11, 1922 in Holyoke, Massachusetts to Frank and Jennie (Sharron), Bud was a proud and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, and friend to many.
A 1941 graduate of Kearny High School, Bud attended the Newark College of Engineering, where he discovered his lifelong passion for machinery. During World War II, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, and served from December 10, 1942 until December 7, 1945. As a Fireman First Class stationed in Brisbane, Australia, he worked tirelessly to keep submarines in top condition-ensuring they could return safely to sea.
After his service, Bud built a long and respected career as a machinist, cost estimator, and plant superintendent at Otis Elevator, Aircraft Radio, ITT, McGraw Edison, and Cessna Aircraft, contributing to the production of vital aeronautical and wartime equipment. His dedication and craftsmanship contributed to the nation's wartime success.
Bud and his wife, Charlotte (Meistrell), raised their family in Pompton Plains. After retiring in 1985, he spent 14 wonderful years as a crossing guard at Pequannock Valley Middle School, becoming a friendly face the students looked forward to seeing each day.
Bud's greatest joy came from life's simple pleasures-sharing stories, singing from the heart, enjoying a big crock of French onion soup, tending his garden, and cheering on his beloved Giants and Yankees. He once played semi-pro soccer in Kearny's English League and carried his love of sports throughout his years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Jennie; brothers Lt. Col. Jack, Kenneth, and Stanley; wife Charlotte Hardaker (Meistrell); son James Hardaker, Esq.; and daughter Lynne Hardaker, RN.
Bud is lovingly remembered by his children Sharron Garner, Christine Conahay, and Kenneth Hardaker (Dara); seven grandchildren-Jessica, Brandon, Brittany (Clint), Jenelle (Anthony), Taylor (Mike), Angelina, and Daniel-and four great-granddaughters, Madison, Mackenzie, Addison, and Olivia.
