- (Ventura County Star)
Charles Marvin Alstot, 85, passed away peacefully with family at his side Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at CMH in Ventura. Born in Oxnard on April 12, 1925, "Marv" grew up around Ventura County. He was a proud veteran, deployed to the Pacific in the submarine corps during World War II. During his Navy training, he returned on leave to Ventura County where he met his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara, on a blind date. He had a long career working his way up through the ranks of Southern California Edison to become the Santa Paula Assistant Superintendent of Distribution. He was proud of his long career at Edison Co. and prouder still of the many co-workers who became his lifelong friends. He had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and traveling with Barbara in their RV. Marv had a strong belief in God and served for many years as both a deacon and an elder for the Ventura Church of Christ. For Marv, family and friends always came first, and family included anyone whose life he touched or who was in need of assistance. He was a gentleman and spiritual family man, who will always be loved and remembered for his unwavering and unconditional love. He was known as Grampa or Uncle Marv to a large circle of Ventura's own "Lost Boys." Marv was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, Barbara June Alstot; children, Jeff, Paul and Joan; grandchildren, Laurel, Ben and Danielle, Parker, Thomas, and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Canaan and Delaney; brothers, Norman and Allen, and their wives, Carol and Terry; locally, nephew, Vernon and wife Denette; and a very extended family of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and lost boys. A memorial and celebration of life will be held later this month on Saturday, September 25. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor his memory can do so with a donation in his name to the Mike Larrabee Foundation at Ventura High School, 2 North Catalina, Ventura, CA 93001.
