SCHOENBERG, William David, 79, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 8, 2022 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Bill was a long-time resident of Newport News, VA. He was an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a man of great faith. He served his country with pride and loyalty for 30 years in the US Navy and regularly participated in US Submarine Veteran's meetings with the Hampton Roads Base Holland Club. Bill loved to golf, shop at the Ft. Eustis commissary, and walk in his beloved neighborhood where he would greet friends old and new with a cheery hello – he never met a stranger. Most important to him was his family. He was a loving spouse and a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen; his daughters, Jennifer (John) Wheatley and Susan Schoenberg; grandchildren, Jessica (Alan) Cooke, Dustin (Megan) Lomaoang, and Alston Wheatley; five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Grace, Kathy, Tom, and John and their spouses as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a kind, loving, generous man who will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022, at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. George Prado. Inurnment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House that housed and cared for Bill's wife and daughters while he was in Richmond at St. Mary's Hospital. COHN, Gerald Norman, 85, of Windsor Locks, CT died peacefully on October 11, 2022 at Hartford Hospital following a sudden health event. He was born in Hartford to Barney and Bacia Cohn and attended Weaver High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy and completed communications school in Virginia before being attached to the submarine division in New London, CT. He served his country for four years. He was then hired by The Hartford Courant where he retired after 36 years. Family was very important to Jerry. He doted on his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra (nee Michaels) and his "three girls." Jerry leaves behind Sandy and his daughters Arlyn Brierre (husband Marc), Marlene Mullins (husband Bob), and Randi Cohn; and five wonderful grandchildren Nicole, Ben and his wife Sidney, Natalie, and Taylor, and his great granddaughter Desmond. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Linda, and his wonderful dog Smokey. Jerry worked hard to provide for his family, sometimes working multiple jobs at once. He loved taking the five of them on a vacation each summer, entertaining his girls with silly antics, playing softball, and golfing. Jerry enjoyed trips to Ogunquit Maine with Sandy where they would shop and walk along Marginal Way. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Temple Beth Torah Cemetery in Wethersfield, CT. Weinstein's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
