COURTNEY, John A., Sr, 100, of Baltimore, Maryland, entered into eternity on March 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, son, Michael, brother Ken, sisters, Jeanne and Pat, and many other relatives and friends. He is survived by his remaining four children (Susan, Mark (Barbara), John, Mary Jo (William) and their families including nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. John was born February 11, 1923 and enlisted in the naval reserves in July of 1940 after completing his junior year of high school. He was called up to active duty in October of 1940 and served for three and a half years aboard the destroyer USS J Fred Talbot before requesting and being transferred to submarine school. He served on the USS Pintado (SS-387) for two patrols off the coast of Japan and participated in the rescue of 12 airmen who had to ditch their badly damaged B29. John qualified in submarines in Pintado in 1945 and was YN1(SS) when released by the Navy. After the war John met and married the love of his life, Lillian (Brusini) and they were married for 70 years before she passed away January 6, 2017. A Mass will be held on Monday, March 20th, at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Angels, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville (21228) with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or the Alzheimer's Association. Published by Baltimore Sun on Mar. 15, 2023.
