Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted. I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. EDWARDS .. .. .. On September 26, 2025, our beloved George Adam Edwards, passed from his Earthly mission due to natural causes. George was born August 28, 1940 to Lacy Lee and Bertha Salome Brown Edwards in Lynchberg, Virginia. Growing up in Roanoke until at age 17 when he joined the ranks of USA Navy, traveling the entire world, all seven continents, Antarctica and the Arctic, including Russia when it was the U.S.S.R.! George retired after 30 years of service. He loved the oceans and traveled every one, whether on a ship, Air Craft Carrier, Ice Breaker, Submarine, Tug boat, or Swift Boat in Vietnam! He loved traveling on the water! He knew and fulfilled his duty, going the extra mile to help others. He was a highly intelligent and quick witted man, he spoke multi languages, I believe his favorite was sarcasm! He had us laughing at his stories, his jokes, his complements, and yes, even his sarcasms! He married Caroline Iverson in 1991, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, he enjoyed the years of temple work, and loved serving in any calling of responsibility he held. George loved teaching at all levels and enjoyed his job locally at Lowe's as a Tool Specialist, teaching which tool to use and how to use them effectively. Always told me there are no stores to run to on a ship! Have to make your own tool to fit. George was a friend to all of us whether as a husband, father, Grandfather, or great Grandfather; You knew where you stood with George, and if he counted you as a friend he treasured you and looked forward to seeing you, He Had Your Back! George is survived by his wife of 34 years, three daughters, 19 grandchildren, and 36 Great grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister. Preceded in death by his parents and his older sister. SCAIRPON .. .. .. Robert (Bob) Scairpon, affectionately known as "Pop," of Ortley Beach, Toms River Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Bob built a life grounded in family, friendship, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959 as a radioman aboard the diesel submarines USS Tunny, USS Bonita, and USS Perch. Following his honorable service, Bob embarked on a lifelong career with Verizon. Through dedication, integrity, and hard work, he rose to the position of District Manager. Over an impressive 42-year tenure, he became not only a respected leader but also a trusted mentor and cherished friend to many. Bob was a devoted husband to Patricia, the love of his life for 59 years. They shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership and together they built a beautiful life centered around family. Although Patricia passed before him, her memory remained close to his heart everyday. He was also preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Scairpon, and his brother, Jimmy Scairpon. Bob's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving children: Robert (Denise) of Andover, NJ; Thomas (Betty) of Hackettstown, NJ; Lisa (Thomas) Graham of Hackettstown, NJ; and Jennifer (Vincent) Leone of Ortley Beach, NJ. His strength, kindness, and unwavering love will live on through them. He also leaves behind his dear brother John (Jack) Scairpon and his wife Helen (Vickie) of Berkeley Township; sisters Anne Penna of North Carolina and Linda Kosnar of Colorado; ten adoring grandchildren - Amanda, Justin, Courtney, Thomas, Jessica, Rebecca, Morgan, Lilliana, Vincent, and Christian; and six cherished great-grandchildren - Teagan, Raelyn, Madelyn, Abigail, Kaiden, and Thomas, who will always remember their Pop's warm smile and gentle spirit. A passionate fan of Rutgers, the Washington Redskins, and the New York Yankees, Bob rarely missed a game and cheered on his teams with loyalty and pride. Bob lived a life full of love and purpose - from family gatherings filled with laughter and storytelling to peaceful days spent on the front porch by the beach he adored. He treasured his time at the American Legion, where he found camaraderie, friendship, and meaning in community. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his kind and welcoming nature, and above all, his boundless love for his family. To know Bob was truly to be loved by him. LAUST .. .. .. Raymond W. Laust, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 67. Born on January 5, 1958, in Minnesota, Raymond lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a love for the outdoors. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Raymond dedicated four years of his life serving aboard a submarine and an aircraft carrier, embodying the values of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he continued to serve his community as a U.S. Postal Carrier for over 30 years, known for his unwavering reliability and friendly demeanor. Raymond had a deep passion for deep-sea fishing, often finding solace in the vastness of the ocean. He took great pride in his garden, nurturing it with the same care and attention he offered to all aspects of his life. An avid exerciser and racquetball enthusiast, he was often seen at the YMCA, where he was a cherished member of the community. His generous spirit extended into his volunteer work with the Samaritans Purse, where he lent a helping hand to those affected by flooding in Asheville, N.C. Raymond was also an active participant in the Great Bridge Fisherman's Association, where he formed many lasting friendships. Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Warren R. Laust; his mother, Emma J. Laust; and his sister, Mary Nelson. He is survived by his brother, Daniel O. Laust, and his wife Monica; his sister, Elizabeth Gerke, and her husband Michael; and his sister Kathleen Laust-Gamarra and her husband Joaquin. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Raymond will be sadly missed by many friends. LOMBARDI .. .. .. New London - David Michael Lombardi, 77, of New London, died at home Oct. 1, 2025, after losing his prolonged battle with cancer. David was born Aug. 12, 1948, in Hartford. He graduated from South Windsor High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on nuclear submarines. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Connecticut in business administration before embarking on a long career in the healthcare industry with Hartford Hospital in information technology and quality management. David was an avid golfer, music enthusiast, and played several instruments, including guitar, banjo, ukulele, clarinet and keyboard. In addition to golf and music, he enjoyed boating, swimming/snorkeling, fishing, gardening and woodworking. David was a lifelong Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees and UConn basketball fan. Friends were an important part of David's life. He was always available when a friend needed a hand. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks (Hartford), United States Submarine Vets Inc. (Sub Vets Groton), and he was also a member of the Holland Club. He belonged to Shennecossett Golf Course and Great Neck Country Club.. SCADUTO .. .. .. Salem - Jack Lee Scaduto, 85, of Salem, and spouse of the late Jean Ann (Sforza) Scaduto, passed away peacefully Sept. 24, 2025, after a 20-year fight with prostate cancer and leukemia. Born in New Castle, Pa., Sept. 21, 1940, he was the son of the late Jack and Josephine (Guvlitto) Scaduto. Jack married Jean Ann, the love of his life, April 23, 1960. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jack first enlisted in 1963. He attended Nuclear Power School and then served on the second nuclear submarine, the Sea Wolf. After an honorable discharge in 1969, Jack served as a chief petty officer in the Navy Reserves while attending the University of Connecticut, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science. Upon graduation, Jack began work at Electric Boat as a nuclear engineer and worked his way up to a nuclear construction engineering supervisor, until his retirement after more than 20 years of dedicated service. In his early years at Electric Boat, Jack developed a passion for sailing while watching sailboats race in the Thames River. After owning several sailboats, Jack eventually became a skilled and competitive racer, known in the Southeast Connecticut area, along with his son Scott, as the Scaduto Brothers. A longtime member of the Thames Yacht Club, he served as commodore for several years and on numerous committees. Jack loved the beauty of nature, enjoying many family trips in the winter months skiing in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, and in the warmer months, hiking and sailing. In his later years Jack volunteered with the Salem Land Trust. After the passing of Jean Ann, Jack cherished the countless visits from friends and neighbors whose generosity was beyond measure, and the many neighbor parties he hosted. Jack is survived by his daughter Sr. Cecelia Marie, Scaduto, ASCJ (Linda) of New Britain; his son Scott Scaduto of Escondido, Calif.; sister-in-law Sr. Ann Marie Sforza, ASCJ of Hamden; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved Muffy, the Maine Coon. Jack was also predeceased by his son Jeffery Scaduto. ASHLEY .. .. .. Robert Peter Ashley, Sr. Age 85, of The Villages, Florida and formerly of Clifton Park, New York passed away peacefully October 1, 2025. Robert was born in Tupper Lake, New York. He was the son of the late George and Louise Beaudette Ashley and brother of Suzanne Leon. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne and son Robert Asley, Jr. Bob honorably served in the submarine service of the United States Navy beginning in 1959 with assignments on the USA Cavalla SSN 244 and as a nuclear reactor operator on the USS Jack SSN 605. Following his service in the military he started ABL Construction Company in Pittsfield Massachusetts and then moved back home to Clifton Park, New York an became a Real Estate Broker and Vice President with Realty USA until his retirement to The Villages. Bob also had a very active personal life. He was a Boy Scout troop leader in Massachusetts, a member of the Submarine Veterans Holland Club, Seadragon Base in The Villages and an ambassador at The Glenview Country Club for 10 years. He enjoyed mountain climbing in the Adirondacks, skiing, kayaking and golf with his family and friends. | ||
