At random: USS SKATE and USS SEADRAGON, after affecting a historic rendezvous under the ice, surfaced together at the North Pole through an opening in the ice on August 1962. What really happened: We didn't surface together, Skate surfaced first. Then we (Seadragon) fired yellow flares forward and aft so Skate could tell us how we were lined up. Remember, under-ice was primitive in these days. Skate called back down rapidly that one flare surfaced on her starboard side and the other to port. She requested we reposition before vertical surfacing. We did. - Coyote (Owen Carlson)

The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

SEAWRIGHT .. .. .. Marshall Clinton Seawright, age 79, of Escanaba (Soo Hill), passed away peacefully Monday evening, October 6, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, in Escanaba, with his family by his side.
Marshall was born September 18, 1946, in Cairo, IL, the son of Arlie and Eloeise (Hogue) Seawright Jr. He was raised and attended school in Cairo, graduating in 1964.
In 1967, several years after graduation, Marshall enlisted in the United States Navy Submarine Service and would spend the next 20 years building his Naval career. As Marshall continued his career in the Navy, he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Business degree. He furthered his career by attending Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in 1975 as an Ensign. While attending Officer Candidate School, Marshall met his future wife and love, Lori Isaacson. The couple were united in marriage on December 18, 1976 at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone and spent 48 wonderful years together. During their years in the Navy, Marshall and Lori began their family by giving birth to 3 children. Marshall retired at the rank of Lieutenant in 1987. Together, Marshall and Lori eventually made their home in Soo Hill where they continued to raise their family. Marshall was employed at Bay de Noc Community College for many years. He taught electronics and several related classes, finally retiring in 2006. In his free time, Marshall enjoyed umpiring baseball and softball.

BROTHERTON .. .. .. John Thomas Brotherton, 73, of Summerville, SC died on Sunday, October 12.
John was recently diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that made walking and speaking increasingly difficult. True to his nature, John faced the diagnosis with his signature “go with the flow” attitude. He was cared for by a dedicated team at the VA hospital, whose persistence and compassion meant the world to him and his family.
John was born on September 3, 1952, in Middletown, NY. He attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School and graduated from John S. Burke High School in Goshen. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served six years of active duty as a submariner aboard the USS Hawkbill (SSN-666). He continued his service in the Navy Reserves, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years. His time in the Navy was one of his proudest achievements and a defining part of his identity. John also attended Orange County Community College.
John began his civilian career at KW Control in Slate Hill, NY (later Piller, Inc.), where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 2020. He built lifelong friendships with his coworkers, whom he considered family. He took great pride in his work and in the loyalty he showed to the company.
In 1996, John married Nancy, becoming a devoted husband and stepfather overnight. He embraced the chaos of joining a family with two teenagers, Stephanie and Patrick, with humor and love. John’s generosity, patience, and warmth made him an irreplaceable part of their lives.
In 2021, John and Nancy moved to Summerville, SC, with their dog, Rosie, looking forward to retirement and living close to family. John was a loving grandfather to Stephanie’s children, Charlie and Katherine. He was the king of Lego sets, board games, and puzzles, and his Donald Duck voice and submarine horn (“ah-oooo-gah!”) will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
