I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.
HAFEY .. .. .. Robert Leo Hafey, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, surrounded by family at his home in Richmond, RI. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Ritchie) Hafey for 40 wonderful years. Born in Providence on April 2, 1934, he was the first son of Leo and Mary Hafey. Bob graduated from La Salle Academy and attended URI for two years. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving as a Guided Missile Technician in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Barbero from 1954 to 1958. After his service in the Navy, he received a BA in Education from Providence College. In 1962, Bob began his 28-year career as a Math and Physics teacher at Chariho High School. He was also the owner and sole operator of the Hafey Driving School for 40 years, during which he taught over 12,000 students in southern Rhode Island to drive.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Hafey, and his daughters, Kalene Nolin and her husband, Jack Nolin, and Shealyn Gamba and her husband, Peter Gamba. Bob is the brother of Maryann Phillips and the late David Hafey, and brother-in-law of Judy Hafey.
CLEVELAND .. .. .. CLEVELAND, BENJAMIN T., 61 of Oviedo died January 2 at home with his family after a year long battle with brain cancer. Ben was born in Alexandria, LA on January 13, 1943. After serving in the Navy for eight years on submarines, Ben attended LSU. Ben worked for Siemens Westinghouse traveling to Brazil, Korea, and the Philippines starting up nuclear power plants. Ben was a Shriner, and a member of the Friends of Florida Folk. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, music, playing guitar, and spending time with his family. Ben was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a true friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Ben is survived by his wife, Nan Cleveland; son, Ben Cleveland Jr.; two grandchildren, Camilla Alexis Cleveland, Shaun Cleveland, all of Oviedo; two sisters, Freddie Ayers of Lafayette, LA and Jackie Pool of Papillon, NE.
