At random: Habitability is heavily stressed in the construction of modern submarines. Specially designed color schemes, mechanical conveniences, air conditioning, and the best chow in the Navy are supplied to make the vessels more livable. A full time staff is maintained by Electric Boat Division to work out 'human engineering' problems.

The above link goes to the USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) Facebook page where their members who have gone on “Eternal Patrol” are noted.

I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

STOVER .. .. .. James Charles Stover, 83, of Turnersville, New Jersey died peacefully while recovering from an unexpected illness.
James was born and raised on the prairie land of Kimeo, Kansas. He left that small town to join the Naval Submarine Service. He attained "Qualified in Submarines" in 1964 during his duty. This title showed his ability to repair and operate submarine systems.
He was a graduate of Widener College and The Delaware Law School of Widener College.
For many years, he worked as a pharmaceutical representative and continued for many years as a practicing attorney in Philadelphia.
Jim had beautiful blue eyes, a special personality, and a contagious sense of humor that was enjoyed by all who knew him.
James is survived by his beloved devoted wife of 58 years, JoAnne (Boris). He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Kay Stover.
James loved all of his standard poodles: Reds and Noah (both deceased) and his beloved constant companion, Jonah.

CARTER .. .. .. Edward “Ed” Kent Carter, a resident of Fort Worth, TX, died peacefully on May 29, 2026, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Ed was born April 17, 1948, in Cincinnati, OH, and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served as a distinguished chief technician for the nuclear reactor of a Polaris submarine during the Vietnam War. Ed went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in industrial arts. Ed met his wife Amy in college, and they raised their three daughters in Fresno, CA. He taught high school for many years in Fresno Unified and later taught special education in Crowley, TX. Ed was a remarkable Sunday school teacher who faithfully taught the bible and served his church family at Normandale Baptist Church. His kindness and humor will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Carter, Rachel Escobar, and Hannah Ramirez; sons-in-law Juan Escobar and Jose Ramirez; grandchildren Benjamin and Gabriel Carter, Peyton Escobar, Phoenix and Stella Casio, and Mateo Ramirez; sisters Mary Little, Becky Ahlberg, Carol Gingrich, Wendy Sandy, and Peggy Brown, as well as numerous beloved extended family members. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Mary Carter, wife Amy Carter, and grandson Carter Escobar.
