I’ll keep my work here going, trying to get others who were not USSVI members. You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate.

ROBERTS .. .. .. James "Jim" Lafayette Roberts, Sr. 86, resident of Nation Road, husband of Judith Henry Roberts, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at his home in Hodges.
Born March 1, 1940, in Blakely, Georgia, he was the son of the late L.L. Roberts and Myrtle Olivent Roberts. Jim was a 1958 graduate of Tarpon Springs High School in Florida. He served his country in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS George Washington, the first submarine to operate under the polar ice, and the USS John C. Calhoun. During his time in the Navy, he received specialized education and training in nuclear power programs, and also served as a nuclear power school instructor in Tariffville, Connecticut.
Following his military service, Jim continued his career in the nuclear power industry. He worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Knoxville, Tennessee, and later Florida Power in Crystal River, Florida. He eventually retired from Duke Energy, formerly Florida Power Corporation.
Jim received his Master Gardener certification through the University of Florida and took great pride in his gardening. He shared his knowledge and passion for gardening with others through weekly gardening columns in the Citrus County Chronicle. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was instrumental in creating the prayer garden at the church, a lasting reflection of his faith, love of nature, and desire to share both with others.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 64 years are his daughters, Elizabeth Aleo and her husband, James, of Greenwood, and Suzanne Roberts of Greenwood; his son, James Lafayette Roberts, Jr. and his wife, Patty, of Tallahassee, Florida; his sister, Judy Herring of Dothan, Alabama; his grandchildren, Hollyanne Aleo, David Aleo (Sam Gulamali), Alexander Aleo (Brittany) and Evan Aleo (Airen Pokorski); and four great-grandchildren, Kathryn Aleo, Madelyn Aleo, Jamelyn Aleo, and Zooni Gulamali. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

SKIBER .. .. .. James Francis Skiber, age 74, of Melrose, Florida, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026 in Gainesville, Florida. Jim was born on May 6, 1952 in Astoria, New York to Edward and Frances (Walick) Skiber. Jim grew up in Syosset, New York and graduated from Syosset High School in 1970. After moving to Boca Raton, Florida Jim earned an Associate Degree from Palm Beach Junior College. Starting in 1976, Jim served six years in the Navy In Submarine and Surface Warfare communities. He last served on the USS Pharris (FF-1094). After his service, Jim spent the next 30 years working for the US Postal Service in Gainesville, Florida. Jim was kind, generous, and devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed following sports, playing golf, and watching old-time TV programs. In his later years, he entertained in karaoke performances. Jim is survived by his sister Carol Skiber (Pat); brother Edward Skiber (Angela); and 17 nephews, grandnephews, nieces and grandnieces. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.

WEINERT .. .. .. Nicholas Joseph Weinert, Age 69, of New Lenox, IL passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 18, 2026. Nick was born in Great Lakes, IL to Irene (nee Polak) and the late Donald Weinert.
Beloved husband and best friend of Cheryl (nee Wernli) Weinert; loving father of Rebecca Oswald and Mark Weinert (partner Stacey Rokusek); cherished grandfather “Pops” of Grace (Michael Weeks) Oswald and Gwen Oswald; dear brother of Susan (late Mike) Spina, Linda (Bryan) Ellis, Karen (Ed) Lukaszka, and Julie (John) Schruefer; loved uncle, cousin, and friend of many.
Nick was a retired Master Code Professional working for many cities and towns throughout the area. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran who served on the USS Sam Rayburn SSBN 635 and the USS Nathaniel Greene SSBN 636. Nick was a member of the New Lenox VFW Post 9545. He enjoyed riding his Harley and was an avid woodworker. Nick could grow anything, and you could see that from the flowers and plants that landscaped his yard to his extensive vegetable garden. He enjoyed cooking, especially grilling, and had about every grill you could imagine. But mostly, Nick enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

HAMILTON .. .. .. Woodrow Hamilton Jr was born October 11 ,1953, in Atlanta, GA to the late Woodrow Hamilton Sr and Alease Hamilton. He was affectionately called "Button" after he was born and the nickname has stayed throughout his entire life. In late 1955 he moved to Miami, FL with his mother & baby sister after the death of his father.
He grew up in North Miami Beach, FL. As a young child and young man he grew his faith at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in North Miami Beach under the leadership of his great Uncle, Rev. Wymon Henderson , who also baptized him. He served as a Junior Deacon in the church and was Superintendent of the Sunday School.
He was educated in the then, Dade County Public School System and graduated from North Miami Sr High School in 1971. Some of his friends called him "Woody".
After graduating high school , he attended Miami Dade Junior College for 2 years , graduating with an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. He later moved to St. Petersburg,FL and then to Sarasota, FL.
While working in his field of study, he began conversations with several military veteran co-workers and decided to join the US Navy. He used his skills amicably on missile submarines throughout the Pacific, one of them being the "USS George Washington 598 Blue".
His last assignment was on an auxiliary naval ship at a Charleston, SC naval base. There he met his future wife, Wilma Singleton. They married on September 14th, 1985 in South Carolina. They started their life together in Bradenton, FL and soon welcomed their first child, John ( named after his beloved late grandfather).
While John was a toddler, Woodrow decided to go back to school and enrolled at the University of South FL , where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. He would go on to say that this was his greatest achievement, besides welcoming their second child, Alease ( named after his mother).
He worked various jobs over the years and retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice, a job he dearly loved.
Woodrow found joy in following sports, keeping up with current events, and watching the Hallmark Channel. He was a great conversationalist and could easily strike up a conversation with just about anyone - whether it was one of his children's friends, a neighbor, or even someone at restaurant while waiting for his food.
He took special joy in his grandchildren, spending any Saturday morning with them at the park , followed by lunch at Applebee's.
On September 7th, 2026 Woodrow departed this earth and transitioned from labor to reward. He will be greatly missed and remembered as loving, kind, deeply devoted - always giving out words of wisdom: Proverbs 2:10 " For wisdom will come into your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul "
Woodrow was preceded in death by his sisters , Brenda Green and Jacquelyn Roan; brother-in-laws Lonnie Mincey and Michelet Lorius; special aunt Christeen Walden; special uncle Andy Walden, and nephew Andrew Evans.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 41 years ,Wilma ; son John (Mariah) ; daughter Alease (Casey) ; a loving mother Alease Hamilton Green; mother-in-law Isabelle Taylor; beloved grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jullian ,Malayah , Aries, Leo, Jamari , and Myla; sisters: Sharon Lorius and Cynthia Mincey; brothers : Michael Green (Donice) and Orlando Green. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he adored and bragged about dearly. And a host of many, many friends.
