Robert (Bob) Eugene Deming, age 69 of Murrells Inlet, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026 with friends by his side, after a six month battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). Bob was born September 24, 1957 in Herrin, Illinois. He was adopted by his loving parents, Elmer and Mary Ann Deming at the age of 13 months. His aunt enrolled him in dancing classes and informed him that "women love men who can dance." He later taught ballroom dancing and enjoyed teaching the ladies how to dance. Bob was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1978 until 1992 where he was a Submarine Technician. He talked a lot about his time in the submarine and the adventures he experienced while serving the country that he loved. He was also a proud member of the Murrells Inlet VFW. Bob moved to Newport News, Virginia in 2002 where he worked as a technician at Riverside Heating and Air for 6 years and Siemen's Automotive for 6 years before moving to the Myrtle Beach area in 2014. He started his own business in Murrells Inlet called "B and L Maintenance" before going to work for Swift Services. Bob enjoyed life! He loved people and people loved him! His best friend Mac remembers the days of riding motorcycles together and tells about how Bob lived rent free in exchange for doing building maintenance in his apartment complex. He purchased an electric bike when he moved to South Carolina, which he enjoyed riding all over town. Bob enjoyed playing golf, and was very proud of his HOLE-IN-ONE at Blackmoor Golf Course on hole #4! He could often be found at Karaoke venues where he loved to sing, dance and socialize with his friends. He was definitely the "Social Butterfly" everywhere he went and as they say, He Never Met a Stranger. Bob's friends started noticing changes in his behavior in March and soon after, he was moved to NHC assisted living where he could be cared for. Bob's close circle of friends visited him every day and he made it known how thankful he was for the love he was shown. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of ALS on July 1. He had a strong will to live and fought hard until the very end. Bob is survived by his very close circle of friends and he was very grateful for all the cards, calls, visits and love he received. He leaves a huge void in our hearts and in our lives. SPRINGMAN .. .. .. Joseph William Springman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully on October 3, 2026, at the age of 85. Joe was born on July 22, 1941, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Germaine and Ruth (Westley) Springman. He was the eldest of four children, growing up with his sisters Ruth and Rita and his brother Robert. His life took him from the Altoona railroads to the worlds of nuclear engineering and finance. He enlisted in the Navy and ultimately graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as a nuclear engineer aboard fast attack submarines during the Cold War. In 1970, Joe left the Navy and began a long career in finance with Connecticut General, later CIGNA. He retired as Senior Vice President of Real Estate Asset Management. Joe married Mary Jane Shea in 1965. Together they built their life in Connecticut, first in East Granby and later in Simsbury. They shared a love of travel, reading, good food, and community. Joe was a long-time volunteer with the Farmington Valley Watershed Association and the Simsbury Land Trust. Joe was a voracious reader. As a child, he had once read an entire encyclopedia, and throughout his life he remained a remarkable source of historical trivia. He loved discussing economic theory and policy, investing, current events, and the stories he had accumulated from his Navy and professional careers. He also had a practical side. Joe liked to stay busy with chores and repairs around the house and was mechanically inclined. He played golf and lunchtime basketball, coached his sons’ soccer teams, and later refereed youth soccer. He loved classic rock and bluegrass and was forever making mixtapes for his commute. He sang in an adult choir. He served as navigator aboard a tall ship when Brian participated in a sailing program. He taught Andrew to play 12-bar blues on the piano. He taught both his sons the importance of taking care of the things they owned. He was also a master of smoking salmon on the grill. Joe and Mary Jane especially loved traveling with their family and spending time with their grandchildren. They took their grandchildren to Disney, national parks, and historic sites, delighted in birthdays and holidays, and were generous in making those occasions special. After Mary Jane’s death, Joe moved to Charlotte, NC, to be near his sons and their families. Although his health was already declining, family remained at the center of his life. He continued to share regular meals with his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he had with them. Joe is survived by his sons, Brian Springman and Andrew Springman; five grandchildren; and his sisters, Ruth Miller and Rita Ergler. Joe’s life was marked by adventure, curiosity, service, generosity, hard work, and devotion to his family. He accomplished much in his professional life, but his greatest legacy is the family he loved and the values he quietly passed on to them. FYVIE .. .. .. William S.
