At random: The first periscope used by the United States Navy was not built for a submarine. The ironclad monitor OSAGE utilized a periscope to discover a Confederate cavalry unit taking cover behind the high banks of the Red River in Arkansas.

And I came across a set of pictures that were taken a few years ago in Florida at Christmas time and there was a pic of a shipmate of mine whom took the time to bring his sailboat out for a day cruise on the lake, my friend brought his boat down so my son and I could go out for an hour or so on the water. I wish that I could post the pics of that day because they are truly wonderfull and special to me and my family, but I cannot.

THANK YOU Bill for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet a shipmate that you met here on the BBS'. While we may not have had a "bash at the ranch" or a "most coast bash" we truly did go out and enjoy the finer things in life that day.....

Price of gas from Va to Fla one way... $80
Price of the liquid spirits and food consumed after the cruise...... $40
Being with a good shipmate and family......priceless
