NY Times reports:
According to Hegseth. It was sunk in the Indian Ocean. This must be the first time a submarine has been involved in a sinking of a ship. At least my uncertain mind thinks that?
Anyone know different?

Without a formal declaration of war is this considered okay?

This ship was not even in the theatre of war!

The story quotes Hegseth “America is winning, decisively, devastatingly and without mercy”

What is going to stop other world powers from attacking any country they choose?

The news feed said it was the 1sr since WWII that a sub sunk a surface vessel using a torpedo. It was a Mk 48. Those fish were something you or I couldn't grasp all that technology. How's things with you and the family?

Some pretty good questions. Russia is attacking a country of their choosing. Iran was starting to crumble, Tehran has only 16% of their water source left. Citizens have been demonstrating and rioting prior to our intervention. That we needed to start a war has not been justified to me. It’s easy to start a war. It’s hard to end a war. I have not heard an exit strategy. No exit strategy in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. We are going to pay a price for this. When oil prices go up, everything follows.

My prediction is we are going to lose this war also.

1.) We are sending up two million dollar missile interceptors to take out a 500K$ suicide drone. We are fast depleting our supply. We gave our reserves to the Ukraine. Iran has lots of cheap drones. They are selling them to Russia.

2.). They are fighting a “Holy War”. We are going to have to kill every one of the Republican Guard, and Islamic fanatics. They won’t quit. That means boots on the ground.

3,) Now the Gulf States, and Saudi Arabia have come on board as allies. They are going to be targeted. 90% of their water is from desalination plants. Those drones are coming after those plants. Next will be the refineries.

In the end, we walk away and rats in the rubble continue to spread terrorism. The Gulf States hate us because they’re back to camels and tents. And we stagger under a massive national debt with our style and ease of living crunched. Thank you Donald

The issue as I see it is this: Must we wait to be wounded, perhaps by a thousand deaths, or can we strike before that?

The Iranian regime threatened “Death to America” every day, and they meant it. Their building of improved rockets and nuclear ability would only lead to one thing: they would kill us.

A theocracy that states that all non-believers must die is a terrible thing. It arises out of the tribal past of the region, where you were either a part of the clan or an enemy to be killed (or possibly be put into slavery).

A religion can’t be put down. But a regime that uses the religion to attempt world rule can be. And must be.

The last sub to sink a surface combatant prior to this was USS Torsk on August 14th, 1945.

Back in the early 70's my best friend worked with me at Hughes Aircraft, Jim was a M&P Engineer with expertise in PCB's, and Wire. Hughes began looking for people to place in Iran to make and teach Iranians how to assemble the (then) wire guided TOW  antitank missile.  Jim was one of many that were accepted for the project, soon he was transferred to Iran after finishing a living overseas training along with his wife.  They wound up living in Shirz until the Shah was ousted.  Back then the Shah  paid the plant  one official formal visit. During that visit Jim and the other Hughes employees were told by the Iranian officials to leave so they could tell the Shah Iranians were doing everything.  Supposedly the Shah was told the factory was making timepieces.  Back then the Iranians were so bad the Hughes told had to tell them don't fiddle with any machinery while you're showing the Shah the plant.  Hughes got their employees out just barely before the Shah's overthrow.  I think that may have been their start into the missiles they are launching now.  If Iran doesn't run out of those cheap missiles anytime soon that we're intercepting with plus two million dollars Patriot missiles we're in trouble.  My understanding was the only place worse for overseas assignments was Saudi Arabia.

The Brits sunk a Argentine Cruiser in the Falklands conflict some years ago.

A couple of US SSNs have a few Australian personnel aboard for training, looking ahead to the AUKUS nuclear submarine knowledge transfer.

Turns out three Aussies are aboard the boat that sunk the Dena. I'll bet they weren't expecting to get that sort of training.
