(Bangor Daily News)
GREENE, Sr., Donald F., USN, Ret., 72, passed away unexpectedly August 18, 2008, while in Cleveland. He was born September 18, 1935, in Bangor, ME to Geneva and Arleigh Greene. Don left Bangor to join the US Navy and proudly served as a submariner and chief petty officer for 20 years. Upon retirement from the Navy, Don brought his young family back to Bangor and worked for the state of Maine as the director of the Bangor Pre-Release Center, until his retirement. Don left Maine to enjoy golfing and sunshine in Florida 15 years ago. "Papa" will be fondly remembered for his love of family, golfing, traveling, playing cards with friends and enjoying the simple pleasures in life. He was happiest when off on his next road trip adventure with his devoted wife of 49 years. Don was predeceased by his granddaughter, Rachel Jacob, in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Toni Greene of Haines City, Fla.; son, Arleigh and wife, Sharon, of Hampton Falls, NH, and children, Kelsey, Julie and Austin; son, Donald Jr. and children, Kyle and Kayla; and daughter, Amy Jacob and husband, Kaleb, of N.H., and children, Raegan and Grant. A simple graveside service will be held for him 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to where he volunteered his services at Give Kids the World, in memory of Donald F. Greene Sr., GKTW, 210 South Boss Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746.
