CRABB, Hugh Alford, 89, of Live Oak, FL and formerly of Cocoa, FL died Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Shands UF Hospi tal in Gainesville. He was bom July 27,1919 in Deepwater, Missouri to Jeremiah and Grace Hallenbeck Crabb, the second of six children. Crabb was a career military man, having joined the Army in 1937 and subsequently joining the Navy in 1940. He was a member of the submarine service and spent the entire World War II years in the Pacific. One of his proudest memories was of the rescue by his sub, the USS Spearfish, of several Army nurses and other military personnel from Corregidor Island in the Philippines just before it fell to the Japanese army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion in Cocoa, and the US Navy Retired Submarine Society. In 1944 he married Doris Shepherd of Perth, Australia. To that union one son, Gary Edward, was born. The marriage ended in divorce in 1947. In 1949 he married Mary Butters of Corry, PA. They were later divorced. In 1972 he married May Riddle. She preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by sons, Gary Edward Garbet of Perth Australia, Robert Troy Satterlee and Mark Raymond Satterlee of Hattiesburg, MS and Allen Edward Satterlee, currently assigned to Ja maica. Mark and Allen are Salvation Army officers. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Crabb, of Columbia, MO and one sister, Arlie Riggs, of Westcliffe, CO; several grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Crabb has been in failing health for several years. From August, 2005 to September 2007 he was a resident of the VA assisted living center in Lake City and the past year lived at the Suwannee Health care Center in Live Oak. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 1st, at 11 a.m., at Florida Memori al Gardens in Rockledge with Major Jack Owens officiating. POWERS, Wilbur P., CDR, USN. Ret., 88, of 16 Palmer Dr., in Gales Ferry passed away Saturday September 27, 2008. CDR Powers was born on March 28, 1920, in Hemingway, S.C. He was the son of the late Dewey and Marina Springs Powers. He was married to the former Eleanor R. Miller on July 23, 1965, in New London. A Navy veteran of World War II, Korea and the Vietnam Wars, CDR. Powers had served on USS Trepang SS412 during World War II. He was a member of the Sub Vets of World War II and the Holland Club and had served on the Naval staff at Hawaii,Washington, D.C. and Submarine Flotilla II in Groton. He retired from the Navy in 1970, after a 30 year career. His Naval medals and ribbons include the Navy Good Conduct Medal with Two Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with three stars, American Area Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Submarine Combat Insignia, Letter of Commendation and the Navy Unit Commendation. CDR. Powers also had received following his retirement from the Navy the Legion of Merit Medal. Following his retirement from the Navy, CDR. Powers began a second career of over ten years with the State of Connecticut as the Registrar of Students at the former Mohegan Community College. Besides his wife, he is survived by and was the father of six and was the step father to six. He was grandfather and father to James Palmer Powers who resided with him. His sons and daughters range in age from 60 to 39 years of age. They include Stephen, Sharon, Alan, Kevin, Glenn, Keith, Kathleen, Nancy, Carl, Craig, James and Lisa. Grandchildren include Tommy, Joey, Rebekah, Sharon, Jason, Christopher, Judy, Catherine, Ashley, Michael, Jewel, Bronson, Jake, James, Charlee, Allison and Ryan. Great-grandchildren are Sami Lynn, Jack, Ellie, Jenna, Justin and Jorden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday Oct. 2, 2008, at the Shepherd of the Sea Chapel, Gungywamp Rd., Groton. CDR. Powers burial with military honors will follow in the Gales Ferry Cemetery, Gales Ferry. There will be a visiting hour from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the Chapel.
