At random: USS SKATE and USS SEADRAGON, after affecting a historic rendezvous under the ice, surfaced together at the North Pole through an opening in the ice on August 1962. What really happened: We didn't surface together, Skate surfaced first. Then we (Seadragon) fired yellow flares forward and aft so Skate could tell us how we were lined up. Remember, under-ice was primitive in these days. Skate called back down rapidly that one flare surfaced on her starboard side and the other to port. She requested we reposition before vertical surfacing. We did. - Coyote (Owen Carlson)

Thought I'd take a poll here (hope it works as I don't recall doing one before).  Please select all the options above that apply to you:

Before I forget, anyone wanting to test a way to maybe, perhaps lessen the number of and lengths of commercials on the you of tube, try installing the Brave browser. It's been my go to choice for many years. Give it a test drive and see if it works or helps you.

I'll be 84 soon and a BBS has been part of my life for so long a time that I can't imagine the BBS being gone. We are all getting older, but I can't think I would have to get to know another option like facebook, or something else.

Just my 2 cents

I’m going to stir the pot just a little. Entertain me a little here and let me give you some thoughts. Are bbs’s truly dead. I submit they are not, they just evolved. Facebook, twitter, X are bbs in a different form. On twitter and X you can speak your mind, give your candid thoughts, and speak politics. I like that. We (at least me) always spoke my mind when I served, still do. Whats wrong with that? I’m not worried about offending a snowflake. It is frowned upon here, and Ron’s site. No one speaks of current events lest they turn political.

In the Goat Locker bbs, run by MMCM/SS Greg Petterman, the muzzles (for the most part) are off, as long as it’s kept on the fantail. The bbs is alive. Take away the restrictions, let people voice their opinions. The only rule is attack the subject, not the shipmate. maybe the bbs will awaken. Your sandbox Don, your rules, I just wish you would relax them.

I was on Facebook pre-COVID. There was about 10 of us from the Barb that had stayed in touch with snail mail then thought Facebook might be a god way to go. And it was for awhile. Then the censors too over. The 10 of us operated just as we did aboard Barb and soon the censors were telling us that our post was not following their way. So about half of us said F*4K your way and went our own way. Facebook just like Twitter, now X, just became a problem we didn't want or need. Not sure about my fellow Barb brothers but I have less headaches having to wonder is what I post will be approved. That's a good thing about thhis board - we pretty much agreed to keeps politics out iin the south forty and I'm ok with that since the board is submarine related. My gripe for the day, thanks.

And thats the problem, and why the bbs is dying. We are in our 70/80’s, so far removed from the submarine world there is nothing to post. Hell, we even forget to remember the date of Scorpion/ Thresher sinking. We could post something about the boat we were on, but that was long ago and in a different life.
