At random: The late Capt. Don Ulmer, USN SS (Ret.), and noted submarine author, began his military career by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and in 1949 while serving as an electrical technician E-4 aboard the submarine USS Clamagore, he was transferred to the Naval Academy. When he asked his commanding officer why he was being sent to Annapolis, the skipper replied, "I don't think you're smart enough to make E-5 and I need the bunk space." Ulmer graduated in 1954 and in 1967 returned to command Clamagore, possibly the only officer to command a U.S. warship having served on it as an enlisted man.

I used the picture icon above and filled in the blanks.
I've also used the edit feature to correct a couple of typos as well.
Have a try at it now.

Looking for a black and white sub photo similiar to one you use for avatar. Do you recall where you got it? Need same to enlarge for a festival I'm chairing that features submarines, Tomahawks and F-16s. Enlarging color photos VERY expensive.

Thanks, Nancy

Roy's appoach works for photos already on the web somewhere but when you make a post, you can check the "Attach a file after posting" checkbox, submit your post, then you'll be prompted for the location of the file on your computer. There is a size limit of 100K I think (or something like that, but it'll tell you if too large).

Hi Nancy,

I have a 300 KB file of the picture I use for my avatar.  If you can use that I'll send it to you.  Why don't you pm me your email address and I'll send it as an attachment.  The picture is of the Sam Houston as we were returning to Holy Lock after a run in the mid '60s.
