I have a diver that thinks he may be diving on ships sunk by Hammerhead. He's looking for log entries for Hammerhead SS-364 on the date of 1 October 1944 to help him in his research. Anyone have hard copies on file that you're willing to check?

Thanks!

I read in Chronology of World War II by date of 1944 -

Sunday 1 October 1944 USS HAMMERHEAD SS364 sunk Japanese Ore carriers Kokusei Maru and Hiyori Maru and cargo ship Higan Maru North of Borneo at 06o30N 116o11E. Have saved it on my favorite places
if he wants me to e-mail it to him. Title the Offical Chronolofy of U.S. Navy in WWII 1944. (Hyper War)

Let me know what his e- mail is and will be glad to send it along, but those were recorded sinkings on
1 October 1944.

Don, I have access to all of the war patrol reports over at NUM and will check next time I'm there if your diver can wait a few days.  Let me know!

On another (yet same) note, NUM will allow the conversion and rights to all of it's microfilmed war patrol reports (only 2 sets in the country and are not owned by the Navy - public domain), "if" they end up with the microfilm back "and" a DVD copy of the results.  I would push this to USSVI but doubt that they (collectively) would see the benefit (as in our creed) - more to follow, this may become a private endeavor if I can pull about 12 grand together!
