At random: The self-propelled torpedo, which gets its name from the eel TORPEDO ELECTRICUS, was invented by Robert Whitehead in 1868, a number of years before a practical submarine was developed.

Subject: An Insight to the Naval Undersea Museum

Today's "Picture of the Day" is a panorama (stitched) shot of the front of the Naval Undersea Museum here in Keyport, WA.  From left to right you see, the sail from the USS Sturgeon SSN-637, the main museum building housing class rooms in the basement, store, museum and warehouse(unseen in photo) on the 1st floor, offices on the 2nd floor and the finest undersea tech library (non-lending) on the 3rd floor.  The round object in the middle of the shot is the end bell from Sea Lab II, then you see the entrance to the theater on the right.  This facility seats 450 people with quite a few change of commands, retirements and promotion programs done by local navy forces.  The museum also hosts Navy Band concerts and free (undersea) movies at the theater.  Behind the camera is the Deep Quest (by Lockheed) and the Trieste II (good to 20,000 feet under back in it's hay day!  There are more storage facilities, bunkers and gardens throughout!

Song? "Secret Garden" from that "show me the money" movie with Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr... enjoy!
