The 2007 USSVI Convention has officially taken over the entire ms Oosterdam, Holland Cruise Line's newest and biggest ship (just a few cabins left!).  There are now some 1,623 subvets and guests going on the one week Alaskan Cruise! If you are in the dark as to any details go here for further info: http://up-scope.org/cruisenews/ ... In the meantime, since we have FOUR Hospitality rooms aboard (all are bars), I have included their location in today's "Picture of the Day"... Dan Martini and I are bunking just below the Seaview Bar (I think I estimated 43 paces and one flight up)... I remember the general meeting back in New York when a couple of very LOUD detractors said this cruise would be a flop (they're not signed up, couldn't get a freebie this time!)...  Music?  "Wasn't That A Party" (bet your bippy!) - enjoy!

Whose rendition is that? I have one by Tom Paxton, and another by the Irish Rovers, but I don't recognize this version. Love that honky-tonk piano riff.

My memory has some CRS, so some reader of this can correct me if I'm wrong.
The ms Oosterdam has a capacity of over 1823, not including crew
So there may be 200 non subvets on the cruise, if the ship sails at full capacity.
I would disagree that 1623 counts as "entire" ship being taken over.
I wonder what would happen if some night about 0300 hours, a klaxon would sound twice?
A few sober subvets run over by a few that panic because they're not sober?
How many of those 1623 will be contributing to Alaska taxes.
If all go ashore, at 50 bucks each, $81,150 dollars to Alaska coffers. UGH

Sorry I have to miss it. For me it was don't buy Jan's meds for a year and go on the cruise or get the meds and keep Jan. I like having her around.
Have fun,

If you're signed up for the cruise you already paid the additional $50.00 tax to get into alaska via ship. So my contribution to alaska has already been made and I plan on adding very little more to the tax. However my wife is doing all sorts of stuff.....

Ditto a lot of passengers Joe!  That extra tax was like a slap in the face from the State of Alaska the way it came about!  I know of more than a few who have said that they don't wish to add more to the local economy - too bad for the local owners etal - maybe they should pay more attention to who they elect in the future!
