At random: The first submarine which actually sank another enemy vessel under combat conditions was the CSS HUNLEY built during the Civil War. The Union frigate HOUSATONIC on blockade station off Charleston, S. C. was the victim. The incident occurred on February 17, 1864.

Does Don have a place on web site that lists popular submarine terms? Thought so, but can't find it. The research I have is for ALL Navy terms and runs 169 pages. Many of terms not relevant to submarines. THANKS

Thanks. Have this one. However, runs a "zillion pages." Looking for lingo especially relevant to submariners. Will check again with Ron.
