LANDRY, Joseph Ray, 81, died on July 6, 2007, at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. Ray was born to Joseph S. Landry and Elmire Young Landry on December 2, 1925. A native of Thibodaux, LA, raised in Gonzales, LA and a resident of Metairie for over 50 years. Ray served his country proudly in WWII in the submarine service. He was a founding and active parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, recipient of the Order of St. Louis medallion, member of the OLDP Men's Club, the Usher's Society of OLDP, a Veterans Administration Hospital volunteer and a member of and past Commander of American Legion Post 397. He was the husband by first marriage of the late Marlene ""Molly'' Gonzales and by second marriage of A. Collette Lewis. The father of Lisa, Stanley and Patricia Landry, Myra L. Perdue and Elaine L. Verges. Father-in-law of Susan Landry and Gregory Verges, Sr. Ray delighted in his four grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law and grandson-in-law: Gregory Verges, Jr., Jessy and Cindi Verges; Jeanine V. and Randy Kozelka; and Susan Perdue, his four great grandchildren, Randy, Jr., Justin, Jessica and Angelo Kozelka. He was the step father/step father-in-law of Maurice, Michael, Melissa, Milton Lewis, Matthew and his wife Jessica Lewis, and Maria L. Thompson and her husband Donald Thompson. He is also survived by four step grandchildren, Luke and Laura Cashio the children of Maria Thompson; and Taylor and Camille Beaudoin, the step children of Matthew Lewis. He also leaves behind his sisters and brothers, Joyce Pasqua, Mary Gautreaux, Joseph Landry of Gonzales, Cecilia Soileau of Lafayette and Robert Landry of Baton Rouge, La. He was preceded in death by his brother Roy of Baton Rouge, La. Family and friends are invited to Visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, 8300 West Metairie Ave., at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Lake Lawn Mausoleum. Donations to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers, preferred.


PHOENIX, Mark P., 48, of Bristol, and formerly of Southwick, MA died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Bristol Hospital in the presence of his loving family. He was born October 29, 1958 in Bristol, and was a son of Ramona (Bruce) Phoenix of Bristol, and the late Roger Phoenix. He graduated from St. Joseph School, St. Paul Catholic High School Class of 1977 and CPI Institute of Hartford. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the Naval Submarine School in Groton. He was a resident of Southwick, MA for 25 years and in December of 2006 he moved back to Bristol. At the time of his death, he was the Computer Production Supervisor at Mass Mutual Financial Group in Springfield, MA. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Besides his mother, he leaves two brothers and a sister-in-law Roger B. and Linda Phoenix of Burlington, and Jeffrey J. Phoenix of Bristol, a sister Kathleen Phoenix of Bristol, two nieces Nicole and Kristen Phoenix both of Bristol, and several aunts, uncles and cousins and family friend Cindy Phoenix. The family wishes to thank the entire oncology staff at Bristol Hospital and the nursing staff on F-South four your care, compassion and love given to Mark. The funeral will be held Tuesday, 9 a.m. from DuPont funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, followed by a mass in St. Joseph Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Friends may call one hour before the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Church or St. Joseph School, 149 Goodwin St., Bristol, CT 06010.
